Travelling to Dallas could use your help
We are heading to Texas for a long weekend, and we are going to an event at the American Airlines Center. We plan to rent a car, so we don't have to stay right near the arena, if there is a better location that would be more fun. So my questions are :
Where to stay (specific hotel recs or areas of the city)? In general we really
like the Kimpton Hotels, so we are looking at these two hotels: (good / bad locations?)

Where should we eat? Anything we should we know before go? and your 2 or 3 most FAVORITE things to do in Dallas.
Re: Travelling to Dallas could use your help
Those two hotels are very close to each other but I would recommend The Palomar. It's right by the hwy you'll want to take to get to the AAC and it's right by shopping (Northpark mall, Mockingbird Station). The chef of the restaurant at the Palomar (Central 214) has her own reality show on Oxygen so I think it would be fun for you guys to try it out. As far as food goes, I love Twisted Root for burgers, Mia's for tex-mex and for a nice dinner Abacus is great.
The Nasher Sculpture Center is really cool if you're into art or design. You could also check out The 6th Floor Museum and do the whole Kennedy thing.
I hope y'all have a great time!

Palomar is bigger and on the highway. Lumen is just about 1/2 a mile away, but it's tucked away in a very nice neighborhood, across from Southern Methodist University. It's a small hotel. Both hotels have well known restaurants.
I would definitely hit up Northpark or the Galleria if you like to shop. Nasher and DMA are also great places. Mockingbird Station is right across the street from the Palomar and is a small, outdoor shopping center with an independent film theater.
Our favorite restaurants are Cremona (hole in the wall, best Italian) and Victor Tangos (trendy, american food). Dallas has a TON of wonderful restaurants, especially in the area around where you are planning to stay. If you're on a big budget, I would hit up Abacus or Park Cities Prime.
Have fun! We love Dallas!
If you end up staying at Hotel Palomar, eat at Trader Vic's. It is a little strip off the hotel so you just have to walk a few steps to get there.
It is Polynesian food (tropical) and the setting is dark with lots of tropical flair. If nothing else stop by and try one of their fun fruity drinks
