Worried about my wedding ring

A stone fell out, and I took it to the jeweler on Sept 4. They said it would take 4 weeks to repair, so I called back after 4 weeks and they said it would be another 2 weeks. Yesterday was 6 weeks total so I called back this morning and it's still not ready!! I am really worried about my ring, and it's my DH's big birthday next weekend and I really wanted to be wearing my ring! At what point do I escalate this complaint? Tongue Tied

I think you're at the point where it's reasonable to be upset and try to talk to someone else about it.

That does seem like a REALLY long time.  I've never had a stone replaced, but anytime I've taken our rings in, they've been back within a week.  Even when my engagement ring and bands weren't fitting together properly, they were able to fix it within that week.

  • I'm with all the others.  It's been a while already and I think you have a right to wonder what's going on.

I would "allow them the opportunity to make it right" (as my husband always tells me).  Ask to speak to the manager.  Express your dissatisfaction and ask what they see as a reasonable time frame to get the work done.  If it still doesn't happen by then I would get the ring back and go elsewhere.

I find if I remember that I catch more flies with honey than with vinegar places usually want to do what they can to satisfy the customer.

  • Two weeks ago I would have asked why the delay, so now.
  • I'd definitely ask to talk to management. It does seem ridiculously long to wait 6 weeks for ring repair. I lost a stone and it was replaced within a week.

  • hmm thanks for the feedback ladies. Even the initial 4 week estimate seemed long to me, but they said for a stone replacement they wanted to make sure they get the right stone to fit perfectly in the setting. Preferably I don't want to take it anywhere else because this jeweler is doing it for free, since it is under a diamond bond (insured against loss as long as it's inspected twice yearly). The lady at the store said she would call me back later this week, and if she doesn't I will call and talk directly to the manager. It's not so much that it's taken this long, it's that they don't really know what's going on with the ring itself (it's a big company). I really don't want to lose my ring!!
  • I hope you hear from them soon, 6 weeks does sound like a long time! Especially since I don't think this time of year is particularly busy for jewlers (i.e. they're probably not busy with holiday shopping yet).

    Keep us posted!

  • I wonder why they don't know what is going on with your ring. That seems really off to me. I would think that since they are a big company they could look up your request number in a computer and find out the status.

I would be worried about what is going on and I would call them Monday morning and ask to speak to a manager.

Yeah, I would have thought the system would be a bit more descriptive. They did check the computer and they said "Nope we don't have it, it's still out for repair"..... Thanks, thanks a lot, lol

  • I would call and ask where your ring is. 6 weeks is a very long time and you should really have it by now.

I would be willing to be money that this is EXACTLY why it is taking so long.  A free diamond....no wonder they are dragging their feet.
