What to do in Louisville, KY?

We're going to Elk Creek winery but I wanted to go to a few more places while we're making the trip out to Louisville.

Any suggestions? Places to visit and/or see?

Re: What to do in Louisville, KY?

  • The last time I was in Louisville to just wonder around was in High School so I am sure there is more to do now, but I know there is a casino right across the river in Indiana, but most people consider it to be Louisville (Think Newport). Also, we went to the Louisville Slugger store and museum which was fun, and the 6 flags theme park. I don't know the name of it, but I think there is a street in Louisville similar to a Behle street maybe where all of the bars are close and you can walk outside with your beer etc... I haven't participated in this fun since I was in HS, but maybe some of the other ladies have been and can elaborate for me!

    Have fun... how romantic!!

  • I love Louisville and go all the time. You need to check out the 21C. It is a hotel with a modern art gallery on the first floor. Also in the area is the slugger museum. I also love Glassworks. It is a couple a blocks away. You can watch people blowing glass. You can even sign up to blow glass pumpkins right now. There are different kinds of glass media done in the building. There is the KY Arts and Crafts museum.

As for the bar district, there is 4th street live. I have no hung out there much. It just really isn't our scene.

If you are going to be there for dinner. 732 Social, is awesome. Proof is great too (it is at the 21C).

  • Thanks for the suggestions... since we're not spending the night, we're going to Churchill downs, the Ali museum, the Louisville Slugger museum, and I heard to try Pie Kitchen too.

We want to go out to dinner, but definitely not a chain restaurant. Since we'll be walking all over tomorrow, I don't think we'll be properly dressed to go out to a fancy dinner... so we're thinking something more casual, but something that is unique to Louisville (kind of like how La Rosa's = Cincinnati)...

  • that is a lot to take on in one day...i am not really sure about any food that is unique to louisville like la rosas is to us. Both places I mentioned were locally owned. Here is possibly your best guide

  • I go to downtown Louisville all the time for work. Some good restaurants in the area is Proof (part of 21C), I really like them because all the food they serve is local. There's also Bistro 301 (smaller restaurant), Saffrons (Persian restaurant), Lynn's Paradise Cafe (outside of the city, it's been featured on the food network and has a great breakfast menu), and Rames Cafe (Middle Eastern type foods).

As far as places to go, 4th Street Live is lots of fun to see as well as the places you have already mentioned.

  • We went out to eat at Lynn's Paradise Cafe a couple weeks ago in L-Ville. It was a really neat place and the food was great!

  • Go to Bardstown Road in the Highlands for lots of little chic, one-of-a-kind stores and restaurants.

Take I-71 South into Louisville and then take 264 (Watterson) - the exit is on the left just after the Gene Snyder Highway exit. Take exit 16 onto Bardstown Road and turn right. Go down 1/2- 1 mile. I promise that you will not be disappointed with the variety of places there.
