Since the storm has taken a MUCH more severe turn west, what does this mean? I read that the east side of the storm has the has the highest winds when the storm is moving north, but this storm is moving west so the north side would have the worst winds and rain. I also realize that the size of the storm makes a difference but how far out does damage REALLY occur? My DH is commuting to NOLA everyday and I'm seriously freaked out by that since the little corolla has no place to hide on I-10 Lightning

  • First, no one knows where this storm is going, it's not even in the gulf yet, severe shift west... would put it in Texas, slight turn, west is more of what it's done.?

The Eastern side has more rain and is considered the "bad" side of the storm. Depending on how big the storm is depends on what gets hit. Again this is a wait and see game.

Your husband will not be commuting after today. If the storm is close, everything will be shut down and contra flow will be put into effect at the earliest saturday. All roads lead out.

Keep an eye out, watch the storm and see what your particular parish recommends you do and then listen to them. Go to the red cross websites and other sites that tell you how to prepare for a storm. Let's put it this way, Katrina... we got the "good" side. Baton Rouge was out of power for a few days, to a week in some areas. Some of these storms are big.?

The directions, mean the storm side, not the way it's moving. If it's the east side of the storm, it means east of the eye, no matter what direction it's moving in.

    Hope this helps. ?

  • hurricanes spin counter clockwise.  so imagine a huge ass bucket going counter clockwise in the gulf.  If we're on the eastern side of the storm the bucket shoves water up the river and lake (storm surge) and at the same time having rain and wind

if we'd be on the western side there is no storm surge. and you just get wind and rain.

The eastern side is always larger and more dangerous too.

ditto pp about he won't be commuting and the contraflow will begin, unelss he's a cop or works in a hospital
