When you guys moved from CA, did you have jobs lined up here? What was the timing of your job search, house hunt, and move?
We're trying to plan all this out to move out of state but I feel like the timelines don't mesh well (i.e. need jobs to get the mortgage on a house, but don't want to look for jobs yet if we're not moving for a few months; don't want to look for houses too quickly, but don't want to run out of time if we don't find something; etc).
Re: ~Rock~
I'm butting in, but there was no way my DH was moving without one of us having a job lined up.
He sent his resume in early April, had interviews mid April, got the job offer 2 days later, negotiations took place until the 3rd week of May, he came down here for 2 days to find housing (his company did help) and he started June 8.
We were lucky, DH's company agreed to keep him on and let him work remotely from Boston because they really like him. So with one job in place we were able to secure a mortgage and be comfortable with me looking for work once I got here. I also lucked out at the time and found a job about two weeks after getting here. We came out to Boston for two weeks and dedicated 100% of the time to house hunting. We really didn't want to have to move twice, but were prepared to move in with my family for a little while until we could find something if we had to.
You're thinking of moving to CT, right? The good news is that at least it's relatively close and you don't have to worry about interviewing cross-country or anything. I think you've mentioned that you have family there, right? Would staying with them for a while until you find a place to buy be an option?
