Nutritionist or Weight Loss Clinic?
I have decided that now is the time to lose weight. I struggle with exercising because I am still recovering from a broken ankle, so I'm hoping that I can get a better diet plan first and then layer in exercise as my ankle heals (it's a very very slow process if you've never had a broken bone).
Has anyone been to a nutritionist or a weight loss clinic? I'd love recommendations or suggestions. I need to lose more than 50 pounds.
Re: Nutritionist or Weight Loss Clinic?
I'm doing Weight Watchers also, other than that I'd do Diet Workshop. I'd skip anyone that tries to use their food only, replacement meals, or drugs unless it's a bariatric clinic getting you ready for bypass or the band. Your family doctor could probably rec a dietician but a lot of the things they teach at WW are similar. A dietician could probably help tweak WW a little but they're more expensive per visit and insurance usually won't pay if it's just for weight loss. I've done WW a few times and just rejoined 2 months ago. I think in the past the focused on calories, now they're really focusing on healthy foods & healthy eating. I'm eating way less junk this time around.
Well, I have high blood pressure so I'm pretty sure I can get a medical referral to a nutritionist.
I just hate the Weight Watchers group in Hyde Park, and it's really not about eating the "same" foods for me. I really need to understand food better, and sometimes I think there is such an emphasis in Weight Watchers in still "eating the same foods, but less or in moderation" that it's too easy to cheat.
So what I'm saying is I'm not sure Weight Watchers is for me. I'm going to keep looking around.
Thanks ladies!
I've heard some good things about Personal Newtrition... one of the ladies is always on Q102 giving advice and stuff in the mornings and seems to know what she's talking about. I don't have any personal experience with them, but i'm in the same boat as you are looking for some help understanding food and how to finally lose all this weight. If you find someone great, let me know!!!
The website is personalnewtrition.com
I'd also recommend Weight Watchers. In addition to the points program, they also have a program called "Filling Foods" (it used to be called the Core Plan), and that might be more in line with what you're looking for. It focuses on eating what I like to call "clean," that is, no processed foods. I was successful on WW (lost 85 lbs) by counting points but eating Core foods (whole grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables). I did better by avoiding foods like sweets, etc. that are triggers for me, unless I bought an individual serving of something.
There are WW meetings all over town, so don't let the ones in Hyde Park discourage you. Or, you can also do WW online and not even have to attend meetings. The WW boards offer great support!
