Re: Poll: Holiday Baking
YAY for baking polls- work is stressing me out!
Growing up, did you help mom/dad bake in general and/or for the holidays? Always- my mom and dad always baked a ton- and still do!
Do you have a favorite memory of baking as a kid? In preschool- we made cookies for Father's Day- and I got to crack the eggs! I was so proud taking my daddy cookies that I got to bake at school
What is your favorite sweet baked item for the holidays? Its funny- I normally bake the sweets but don't eat them- just smelling all of the sugar and tasting the batter makes me sick and not want to eat anymore- BUT if I had to pick one- the peanut butter cookies with hershey's kisses on top!
Do you bake for the holidays now as a grown up? TONS- I try to bake as much as possible for the holidays- my office loves me, lol! I love to experiment and try new recipes, and am enjoying making more "sophisticated" desserts as I "grow up"
I am trying to learn to decorate and make things more elegant- but also enjoy the basics like chocolate chip
Those with kids do they help you? if you plan on having kids, do you want to have them help you? I don't have kids- but I love having my nieces over to help- and the neighbor kid, lol! It is a fun event- I usually play lots of music, and love the decorating they do- the messy but beautiful creations
When I have kids- we'll definitely be making lots of fun creations for the holidays!
Growing up, did you help mom/dad bake in general and/or for the holidays? Mostly only for holiday baking because we made lots of cookies. She would let us help with cutting them out.
Do you have a favorite memory of baking as a kid? If my mom would have let me have my way, every cookie would have been a angel or Christmas tree. Those two were my favorite shapes! I never got to help my mom with baking the fruit cake she made every year, but I always loved sneaking pieces of marzipan that she would cover it in.
What is your favorite sweet baked item for the holidays? Mine is my mom's shortbread recipe.
Do you bake for the holidays now as a grown up? Sometimes, depends on how busy I am.
Those with kids do they help you? if you plan on having kids, do you want to have them help you? When we have kids I want to make it a tradition of making cookies like my mom did. I really enjoyed it and have many great memories and I want our kids to have that as well.
Growing up, did you help mom/dad bake in general and/or for the holidays?
Always, it was a requirement in my family. We started off just helping and as we got older we would each get to pick a recipe and make it on our own.
Do you have a favorite memory of baking as a kid?
I don't know if it's a memory but there's this pic of my dad, bro, sis and I in our old kitchen. Us kids are covered in flour,my dad's rolling out the dough, there's is flour and sprinkles and dough all over the place. You can see the dishes stacked in the sink, boxes of already baked cookies in the background. And we are all just grinning from ear to ear. I just love that my parents didn't care about the mess, or the sugar, or any of that, just that we were having fun. It's definitely something I tried to remember with my kids
What is your favorite sweet baked item for the holidays?
My dad's sugar cookies, rice krispy treats and forgotton cookies.
Do you bake for the holidays now as a grown up?
I use to still help my parents and sometimes do my own but really trying to get back into it (I bet our cookie class will help
)
Those with kids do they help you? if you plan on having kids, do you want to have them help you?
Isabel always "helps" me when I bake. I love seeing how she progresses. From just dumping the whole container of sprinkles onto one cookie, to actually arranging them. And Joaquin will be jumping in there as well in no time.
Growing up, did you help mom/dad bake in general and/or for the holidays?
I've been blessed with a horrible memory of my childhood (and in general), but I do remember baking a bit.
Do you have a favorite memory of baking as a kid?
Not unless eating the baked goods counts.
What is your favorite sweet baked item for the holidays?
Snow cookies!!!!! Such a PITA since you have to refrigerate the dough, but so worth it. Oh, and pumpkin pie and sour cream cookies.
Do you bake for the holidays now as a grown up?
On occasion. It depends on how much time I have.
Those with kids do they help you? if you plan on having kids, do you want to have them help you?
I'm hoping to have my then almost-2 y.o. help with some cookies this year.
Growing up, did you help mom/dad bake in general and/or for the holidays?
- Yes, my mom didnt do much baking but we did some...
Do you have a favorite memory of baking as a kid?
- Not really, just licking the bowl....
What is your favorite sweet baked item for the holidays?
- Spritz cookies
Do you bake for the holidays now as a grown up?
- I use to, but then there is so many cookies, pie, etc. out there already I figured I wasn't helping any one's waste line anyways...
Those with kids do they help you? if you plan on having kids, do you want to have them help you?
- No kids now, but when I have kids we will probably make a couple batches of cookies together at the holidays.
Growing up, did you help mom/dad bake in general and/or for the holidays? My mom always baked something. To this day it doesn't feel like a holiday unless there is the smell of something baking in the house.
Do you have a favorite memory of baking as a kid? Not a holiday story, but when I was 10ish(?) a friend came over and my mom set us up to bake some cookies (I can't remember which kind). For some reason the recipe printed with decimals instead of fractions like .5 instead if 1/2. So my friend and I started the cookies and didn't notice the . in front of the 5 so we added 5 cups of sugar instead of 1/2 a cup. My mom tried to get out as much sugar as possible and double up other ingredients to try and even it out, but they were some pretty sugary cookies.
What is your favorite sweet baked item for the holidays? Hands down oatmeal cookies. I love them so much and I make some pretty good ones.
Do you bake for the holidays now as a grown up? As much as possible. i'm looking forward to the extra baking time now without school. In years past I always had to wiat until school was on break.
Those with kids do they help you? if you plan on having kids, do you want to have them help you? Seriously one of the things I'm looking forward to most about being a mother is baking with my kids.
