Kitchen cabinets....wwyd?

We are redoing our kitchen since we want to sell our house in the new year. My DH built the counter tops and we are going to paint our cabinets.  My question is would you paint the insides of  the cabinets or just the outside? The insides are a natural oak. We are going to paint both sides of the doors.  I told him we should paint the insides b/c if we don't I think it will look half done. We are painting the outside of the cabinets a cream color, that matches the counter tops and our appliances our black.

thanks!

Re: Kitchen cabinets....wwyd?

  • Could you just stain the insides, varnish, etc.  Otherwise, if you're thinking they would look half done, without seeing exactly what you're talking about, I would paint the inside.

  • We just painted the outside/doors. I asked our agent about painting the shelves and she said not to bother.

  • I painted the exteriors of mine (PIB) and I didn't paint the insides.  I did the insides of the door panels though.  We're the only ones who really see the insides of the cabinets since we don't have any without doors and none with glass paneled doors so I wouldn't bother.
  • Agree with the pp's. Plus, dishes might tend to stick to the paint with a lot of humidity. I feel like this sometimes happens in our pantry with some canned goods. If it really bothers you, I guess a stain, otherwise I'd let them go natural.
  • I agree with the the other posts of leaving them natural. When people look at your house you'll have things in the cabinets so they most likley won't notice if they aren't painted. You could aways put down some liner on the shelves if you were really worried.
  • I agree as well, I would just paint everything visible to the outside and not worry about the inside.
