I decided I wasn't going to tell my students, I was just going to let them figure it out. Well they are, and there is chatter around school, and I hear in class, "ask her...no you ask her..." It is pretty amusing. If they come and ask me outright, I will tell them. It won't be long until they all know. My favorite way of asking was this one:
L: Ms M, I heard a rumor about you
Me: Oh yeah, what would that be
L: Well, the word on the street with all the lil kid is that you've got a bun in that oven...
Me: Hmmm
L: Well, are you pregnant or what, cuz some kids just think you're getting fat.
Me: Yes, L, I am.
L: Well, good luck with that
Gotta love 8th graders haha!
Re: My students are figuring out I'm pg
This is effing hysterical. I guess that means that you've told your administration about it. How'd that go?
I told the principal awhile ago. I walked in and told him I found out the first day of school that I was pregnant. He had his elbows propped up on the desk, and quickly put his head in his hands. Then he said, "I'm sorry, what I meant was, congrats." Haha. The other asst. principals were excited, and all of my colleagues are excited, and asking if they can throw a shower and stuff.
The kids ask really personal questions though, and I just tell them they will figure it out one day, and that everyone is different so I can't answer.
Feel free to elaborate. I have no doubt it's hilarious.
They think I am now broken, and that I shouldn't be doing anything, and I informed them that I still go walk everyday, and do the treadmill and stuff. One of them asked, "won't the baby fall out? You'll look down and see the baby attached the the cord coming out of you..." I just changed the subject on that one.
I was out this morning for my appointment, and they all assumed I had an appointment, and I got back today and one of the students who I also have in the morning said, "did they put that gel stuff on your belly or did they stick the thing in you. They always stick that thing in my sister."
They don't hold back on any questions. I've been asked if it was planned or if I had to take a "shot." If we planned it. If I understand if it will hurt (like they know...)
I have been asked just about everything.
