MrsZIZ

Hey girl -- So I read your post below. Thank you!

I ordered some prefolds, covers and a few AIO's to try out.  Question is....which fold do you do with the prefolds?  Is there specific ones for boys?

TIA!

Re: MrsZIZ

  • We almost always do the angel wing fold or a modification of it aka our own version :). We tried the newspaper fold and it didn't work for us, it took too long. Look online for different folds and then try the different ones, that's what we did. We tried them until we found one that was quick and easy for us.

Are you still EBF? If so, Bella's poop is still pretty runny so you want to sort of create a "pocket" for the poop to catch into. If you are using the thirsties covers though you should be fine. We've had some poop in the cover but NEVER on her outfit! You wouldn't want to fold the prefold into 3rds and just put it in the cover if you are EBF or the poop will always be on the cover. Bella only poops about 2 times  a day now. Oh and make sure you point his penis DOWN or he could spray out the top :) But I do that when I diaper boy babies in disposables too.

I'm so excited you are trying it out. We seriously LOVE it! It works well for us and has saved us a ton of money.

Did you end up buying on DS? Any tips? Bella weighs over 12 lbs now and the covers and prefolds we're using say up to 15 lbs so it might not be too much longer before we need new dipes, they grow SO fast! I want to try different stuff but I haven't used that site yet to buy, just to look around. Hopefully you got some great deals! I want to hear all about it!

  • Thanks Sarah.

Yes, I am still EBF.  Ashton has about 5-6 poopy diapers a day which is why I am going with the prefolds for now along with some AIO.  I just ordered some new ones off of Nicki's Diaper's (Dreameze, SpoEasy, Bottombumpers, Dry Bees, Mommy's Touch and B.G. Organic AIO) to see which ones I will like the best. I figured the resale value on these suckers are great so I won't have to worry about selling them if they don't work out.  I checked out D.S. and did order a GroBaby kit for pretty cheap but I feel like I will need another GroBbay Shell since it came with More inserts than I would need for the diaper? IDK:-) It's still all new, but it's all I have been researching the past few days.

Ashon is quite the chunckster (15.2 lbs and 26 inches) which is why I am trying quite a few AIO's.  I'll let you know how the AIO's work out and which ones would be best for Bella.

Oh, which detergent do you use? I am not sure if you mentioned that in your pp or not. I think I read somewhere that Purex Free and Clear was a good choice? I'd had to spend a lot of $$ on detergent too:-(

     Thanks!

    P.S. How is work?

  • I can't wait to hear how the AIO's work out. I'd love to buy some different diapers to see how they go but we'll see. I can't believe Ashton is over 15lbs!! Bella is over 12 already (we weighed with her clothes on at the drs and she was 12lbs 10oz) and 23 inches but that was last time we measured which was a month ago!

We use Purex Free and Clear, only 1/4 of the amt you would normally use for a load. You don't want a ton of detergent but you need enough... if that makes sense. It's working well for us, we haven't had any issues with stink or absorbency by doing it that way.

Work is ok. I love my job but I do HATE being away from her! It makes me enjoy my time with her that much more. I'm pumping 5 x in 12 hours so it's enough. I could probably pump 4x and be ok but I'm nervous ;) I'm pumping plenty and our freezer is full of milk! If we keep going the way that we are, we're goign to have to buy a small deep freezer! I'd rather have too much than not enough though. I really hope to BF for a yr so we'll see.

When do you go back to work? How's the car seat thing going? Still screaming? Bella is getting a little bit better in there. How's life without your mom around?

  • Sorry I didn't respond sooner..I forgot about our thread.

I am going back to work Nov 6th for that day and I got back full time on the 12th.  My mom is actually flying back out. I am a weirdo and don't want to put him in daycare with someone that is watching 5 other kids. I feel he is too little..so my mom will fly out on the 10th and will fly back with us on Dec 15th (we are going to MD for x-mas).  Then hopefully I will have it all figured out with a daycare, etc.

Car seat...he still screams. I find that if no one is in the back with him he is usually quite or falls asleep. I do have a CD with the blowdryer noise on it that sometimes can help if the is fussy. If it's a full on scream then nothing works expect for him to be out of the seat.  Oh well...

Glad to hear work is ok. Just think you are doing it for Bella:-)  At least you only have to work a few days instead of 5.

I hear you on the pumping....I have so much saved that I am not even sure it will be good for him (I hear that our milk gets thicker when they get older) and since I am pretty sure my foremilk/hindmilk is messed up in most of the bags.

Does Bella like her aunt's house?  How is the bottle thingy going? Ashton still only plays with the nipple. It's almost like he can't figure out how to suck it?
