Good luck this weekend! I hope you have a really fun race.
After responding to your post on H&F, I realized that I am actually signed up for a 5K as well. I don't do very many just because the reg fees and driving adds up, but this one is a little bitty race in my hometown.
I kind of forgot about it, and now we have a bunch of employees gone this weekend at the farm. I REALLY hope I can still run it because I already paid a whole $12 to participate:) At least this race was super cheap, but I mainly want to run because I know I've gotten faster since my last 5K at the end of July.
Good luck again!!
And, I thought of one last tidbit of advice. Normally, they will have 1 water stop during a 5K. I almost always avoid them unless it's SUPER hot outside. It's a pain in the butt to dodge through people to get water, and you shouldn't really need to drink during a 5K unless you are truly feeling parched. Just hydrate before and after!
Re: Jena**
Thanks Lisa! I don't take water on my runs normally so i hadn't planned on stopping for water. I don't know what the weather is supposed to be, not sure if its going to be cool or hot. but i should be good w/ no water. My BFF is running w/ me, i just asked her yesterday.... She did the Nike Women's marathon on Sunday in San Fran. So that will be nice to have someone with me bc i was pretty nervous about it.
I think I am going to register for a half marathon that is on March 21st... just gotta start training for it. I went to runners world and made a coaching plan thing.... but there are some things on it i think i'll skip.. like the run 800 meters thing.. I don't know if i did it right. It has me only running 2 miles 2 days a week for the first few weeks. Does that sound right? That just sounds like i'm going backwards instead of forwards.
Today I ran and I have no idea how far...so pissed. I took my GPS. which is for my car, but it works... and today it didn't work.. i' thinking 3.5 miles but still. Grr... I decided i am going to ask my dad for a running GPS/HRM for my b-day/Christmas, they fall 15 days apart! I dunno if i can wait that long though!
Good Luck on your race this weekend! I really hope you can go!!!
sorry so long!
I would LOVE a GPS.... but right now I just use mapmyrun.com and track my miles on a spreadsheet.
Maybe for Christmas...!
As for the runner's world plan, espeically if you do it for a full 14 or 16 weeks it will start you off with very low mileage for the first few weeks. I think it does that for people who maybe don't run at all and then suddenly want to train for a half. Then, at least they aren't starting off way too fast. However I think before you start putting on all those miles it's okay to have a few light weeks. If you want to do a few more miles in the early weeks I'm sure it will be fine.
No matter how much you want to stick exactly to the plan, I think you'll find that you move runs to different days or do a few miles +/- what you're scheduled to.
Just make sure you try to keep the long runs the distance they are supposed to be and you should be fine!
I think my biggest challenge on long runs is actually finding somewhere to run. There is NOWHERE to run where I live... I was going to "downtown" davenport... but running even 3 miles is a challenge. There just arent enough streets, and its gets repitious and boring as heck. H doesnt really want me running by myself.. he says "what if you become like one of those jogging women that disappear".. a little while back there was a woman jogging on a trail near UCF and she was kidnapped and killed... H is not a worrier at all, but he doesnt want me running bymyself unless its on our road- which is in the boondocks and is only 1.3 miles long at best! that will be a horrible long run, up and down the same road 13 times, OMG kill me now! Yesterday he didnt want me to go to the lake that has a trail around it by myself...so i had to run up and down our road...ehhh boring. The closest long trail is 45minutes away. Its in my hometown..which i guess is fine, bc my sister is going to train w/ me and she lives there. but its just irritating having no where to run!
maybe that should have been my confession?
