Phew and a nice story

I just got picked up by another project Big Smile

Now for my story.

My grandparents have been married for 62 years, on their 60th wedding anniversary they received a letter from Her Majesty the Queen, congratulating them on their diamond wedding and how she is "quite pleased to be celebrating the same anniversary with Phillip this very year".  They sent the orginal to Cate, we got it yesterday.  I'm so excited that she will have this, it has the Queen's signature on it, it was addressed formally to my grandparents and given today's divorce rates not many people will see 60 years of marital bliss.  One part of me is a little upset, I feel like they are trying to give her as many things as possible should anything happen to them, my grandad is 86 and my nannie is 83, they are her only living great-grandparents.  I think I'm going to find a frame for it, to preserve it more than anything.

Well that's my cool story for the day, now I'm off to get this desk cleared off before I go to my new project in hopefully two weeks.

Re: Phew and a nice story

  • That is pretty cool - and I wouldn't worry about them giving as much as they can now. They're giving it to people that they want to have it, such as Cate, instead of it remaining after their passing (which hopefully won't happen for many many years yet!) for family to fuss and fight over!
  • Great news Caro!!!!! I'm so happy for you!

How nice the Queen sent them a letter congratulating them on their anniversary. My grandparents have been married 62 years this month but haven't ever received anything from the President...hmm. :)

  • Oh wow, that is pretty cool.

And congrats on the new project!

  • That is very exciting to get that letter. Also congrats on the project again. My grandpa has been slowly giving some things away (hes 80) and its very hard but i try not to think about it too much because hes in good health right now.
  • Also, this just occurred to me, Caro.  My grandfather started doling out his estate/inheritance money to people in the family probably 10 years ago.  For him, he enjoyed being able to give it to others and seeing them enjoy it versus the stuff sitting around his house/attic.
  • Yay for getting picked up on a new project!

That's so cool about the letter!  I know it's hard to accept something like that from your grandparents, but I think it gives them peace of mind too, knowing that Cate will have it.  A few weeks after my grandma found out she had cancer, she gave me and my sisters her best jewelry - she gave me the diamond pendant my grandpa gave her (it was also the last Christmas gift he ever gave her and I always thought it was so beautiful).  It was hard taking it b/c I knew why she was giving it to me - if she didn't give it to me then, no way in hell would my aunt give it to me later.  I wear it every day and it's my favorite piece.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • My nana tried very hard to give me some of her jewlery the last time I was home and she was in good health, the next I was home she was in the hospital dying.  I didn't want her to give it to me then as she was still healthy and thought of her not being with us was to much for me, I should have taken it then, now my aunt has it and won't part with any of it even though everyone knew it was to go to me.
  • Yay for getting another project!

And that is a very cool story!

  • Wow..that's awesome! Both stories that is! :)
