any treadmill recs

DH and I are searching for a treadmill. I didn't want to join a gym so we are designing a workout area in our basement. Does anyone have a treadmill? Any suggestions would be great.

TIA

Re: any treadmill recs

  • I do not have a treadmill but we do have an elliptical trainer which I love, it is easier on my knees and I can still use it while pregnant.  We got it for an awesome deal at Sears.  It sells for $2000 and we got it for 1/2 off plus some extra scratch thingy.  It has gotten a lot of use out of it.

  • I know there is one on sale at Canadian Tire this week (ends tomorrow)

I bought a toolbox last weekend and I saw at least 3 or 4 people getting treadmills hauled out to their car so it must be a good deal!

  • I might check it out, thanks

  • We bought one off of my boss recently.  It is a Nordic trac.  She bought it from Costco.  i really like it b/c it has a bunch of personal trainer programs on it, an I-pod dock and even a mini fan on it.  It isn't as good as the commercial ones at the gym I go to but the track is pretty smooth.  For $1000 new, I think it is worth the money.
  • Check out this website, since you are near TO - these are commercial grade (from gyms), refurbished machines.  They are totally refurbished prior to being sold.  We got our treadmill for $1500 last year and it is so awesome. Way better than anything we could have purchased new for a similar price.  They have guarantees on their work too.

  • I bought a Reebok treadmill (manfactured by Icon) about a year ago from Sears on sale for $700 or so.

If you're looking for one under $1000, Sears and Canadian Tire always seem to have treadmills on sale. Definitely read consumer reviews online though and make sure you have a really good warranty.
