So, we are installing wood floors on pretty much our entire first floor in the next couple of weeks or so. H is deadset on installing them himself, which will seriously probably take AT LEAST one month. Not to mention how he will be breaking his back, crabby and overworked. So, I am trying to convince him that we should just have them installed. It is about $2000 extra for this, but IMO totally worth it.
He is battling me on this and I dont want to give in. UGH! Sorry, just neeeded to vent I guess.
Re: So stubborn! (a vent)
I would never let me DH install real hardwood floors. Pergo type floating floors, yes, really wood that's a different ballgame.
Not only is the installing part a PITA, so is the sanding and staining portion. I would rather have someone do it because if they do it wrong, they replace it at their cost.
that's good. I was just thinking about the huge ordeal my parents went through when they got hardwood installed. the house was 100 years old, so the contractor had to level everything out before they could start installing them. IT was hell living like that for a week or so but well worth it in the end.
Hopefully if your DH feels like he is too over his head in the project, he will stop and call the contractors. I understand the desire to save $2,000 but sometimes it's not always worth the hassle and time.
Money is a very powerful motivational factor.
BUT.. could part of it be he wants to be Mr. Macho Man? Like... I can see myself wanting to be able to respond to compliments on the flooring "Thank you... we installed it ourselves." and have that pride in a job well-done. (My point being I'm a woman and don't even have that "caveman/provider" instincts like a lot of guys do.)
YES! That is him. Do you know him? LOL.
No, but I'm a fairly prideful person myself. And have 4 brothers, an incredibly arrogant father, and usually surround myself with men for friends, so I've seen it. LOL
Well, then I am sure you can agree how annoying it can be.
