I am wondering what you use/used to help prevent stretch marks while pg. I know its early but I want to prevent as many as possible and since my boobs are already falling out of my bra I want to get them lathered up so they don't look like hell when they deflate.
Re: BR: Stretch Marks
Oh and I didn't get any....yet (still breastfeeding)
I truly believe they are hereditary! I was fortunate to have very few, but it is funny cause I got them in the same exact spots my mom did.
I used 100% cocoa stick by Queen Helene. You can find at many drugstores. I used to slather pure cocoa and vitamin e oil all over my belly.
I notice that my stretch marks are at there worst when I am eating poorly and not exercising. (Make sense?)
PPs are right - they're totally genetic. Most prevention creams are basically lotion, so you can just slather that on if it makes you feel proactive (some people like Bio-Oil, too), but really, there's nothing you can do.
I got them during puberty on my boobs and my mother has them, so I already knew I was screwed - they've already reappeared on my boobs and I have some on my stomach (yes, already). I put on lotion just because I like the way it makes my skin feel, but there's nothing I can do to make them go away or not let any more appear.

I tend to agree with everyone else - they're hereditary.
But my tummy has been so itchy that I've been slathering on the cocoa butter or just aveeno cream.

I am in this boat. It's weird because my grandmother had 5 children without any stretchmarks and my mom's two sisters never got them. But my mom got them BIG time! And I have a ton of them (from my head to my toes) from my teen and early 20's. I have noticed some small ones forming on my lower belly in the past couple of weeks. Ah well...I guess my swimsuit modeling days are over (LOL)! I just use coconut body butter (by Alba Organics) to soothe the itchiness...as others already noted, there's no way to avoid them if you're genetically inclined, other than not to get PG or ever gain weight!
That said, I think it's weird that women hold "not getting stretch marks" during pg as a badge of honor. It's genetic, so it's sort of like gloating that you have blue eyes or are 5'6"...it's beyond your control. The good news is...our skin is made to stretch to accomodate growing another being (or two or three)...how amazing! And in time, they do fade...so unless you're banking on a career as a pin-up, you don't have to worry too much about getting them.
