Progressive

It is time for my car insurance to be renewed.  Progressive just gave me an unbelievably low rate for me and DH.   Have any of you used them before?  Would you recommend them?  Right now I have insurance through my teacher's union and I also plan on looking into AAA, which is where DH has his.

Re: Progressive

  • Our insurance is with Amica. The last time I check Progressive they didn't seem to insure our area. They must just be starting. I'd check out the Better Business Bureau and see what their ratings are.

  • I had progressive from the time I got a car until Dh and I switched to Geico about a year ago cause their prices were so much lower (and then switched back to progressive when we moved here cause Geico didn't cover Mass. yet), I haven't had a problem with them and would recommed them if they are giving you a good price!
  • I have had progressive and LOVED them.  I have always found that I get really good prices with them, but my DH doesn't so he thinks they are $$$...

In a past job, I dealt with a lot of insurance companies and feel like they treat their insureds really well.

I have had NEGATIVE experiences with GEICO but a lot of people seem to love them, until they get dropped!

  • I switched to progressive when they came into MA since the rate was great, and then I had an accident and now I know why their rates were great.  The claims experience was awful!  I go through an independent insurance agent now and DH had an accident and the claims process was SO much better.  The company we use now is Hanover/Citizens.  GL

  • I am sorry your claim experience wasn't good.  In total, I had been in three accidents with Progressive (but should note, the progressive policy was written by an independent agent) and had only top notch service, especially in one where the officer on the scene said it was my fault and Progressive fought on my behalf, reconstruction and all to prove that it was impossible.

I had Geico, and got into an accident that was NOT my fault, someone ran a red light, but they fought tooth and nail, and then dropped me.  Same thing with other who had Geico, as soon as you file a claim, your fault or not, they don't want to insure you anymore.

  • We have Progressive because I wanted to get it fast when we got a new car over one weekend a year ago.  I'm embarrassed to admit it, but before we had gotten this car (second car) my FIL had been paying the insurance on our one car because DH was in grad school.  When he left school, we got the second car and put both on the new insurance.

ANYHOW, it was easy to get, but the rates look really cheap because the plans are for 6 month periods, and the rates have gone up each time.  We are going to be switching to another company at the end of this contract.
