So I am having a bit of an issue here and I need some calming down. I am having a dispute with my old dentists office back home. They are telling me that I never paid them a $140 bill. From 2006. Kind of strange since both MH and I were treated there several times for two years since then and not once was it mentioned that we had a bill with them.
So I called the bank to find out about them looking for the check for me. They told me they couldn't help me and gave me the number for the recovery center (since my account was closed). I called the number and the woman was wicked rude and acted like I was a moron. She told me I have to go to the branch. I was like well I'm in Louisiana and there are no branches here so that doesn't help me. She asked me for the account number and I told her I didn't have it. So she asked for my social. I gave it to her. She asks me if the check was through Charter Bank. I'm like nooo I never had an account with that bank. So she goes "I can't help you, I'm going to transfer you" and she sends me to this recording that is says "if you want to make a payment on your auto loan, if you want to make a payment on this..." and I'm like WTF?
So now I'm petrified that it was some sort of scam and now she has my social. I don't know what to do. I just e-mailed MH at work and he is calling the bank since no one is able to help me. I asked him to also verify with them that they gave me the correct number.
I'm kind of freaking out and I'm so paranoid now someone is going to steal my identity
Re: Having a bit of an anxiety attack here...
I would think the bank would give you the correct number to call. If you need to, call all 3 credit agencies and put a freeze on your social to where companies have to personally contact you to open accounts. Better safe than sorry!

I agree, if you're worried call the credit bureaus. If you do put a freeze on your account they will give you a pin number or some kind of number. DO NOT LOSE IT. I could not find mine, and it was the worlds biggest pain in the ass trying to get the freeze taken off.
