Opinions Please!

What do you guys think of this lamp for a kitchen?

We have a small kitchen, so it can't be anything too big. Right now, the ceiling light that we have gives off this hospital, flourescent glow that bugs me to pieces. I cook with just the overhead stove light on because it hate it that much. I'm going to IKEA today to check it out, I really like the price, only $30, but I'm not convinced just yet. I want to see what kind of "light" it gives off too.

Do you think it could have a cool, retro type vibe? Or will it just look wierd?

Re: Opinions Please!

  • Its not one I would say I love, but it does have a retro feel. It kind of reminds me of an old fashion street lamp. But I think it would work in a small kitchen.
  • The lamp isn't ugly, but just not my style.  I would have to see pic of your kitchen to better judge.  Worst case you buy it, don't like it, and return it!  LOL

  • Yeah, I'm not that convinced either. It's just so frustrating. I can't find exactly that I want you know? I really like this one too from Ballard Designs. DH wasn't too crazy about it, but I think when I saw it he would like it. The price tag is a little higher than I would like though.

The reason why I like it is because the kitchen opens to the dining room and the light fixture we have there is a round drum shade, so I figured maybe it would sort of "go together". What do you think?

  • The first one is definitely retro and not my style, but I would have to see your kitchen to judge wether or not it would go.  I definitely like second one better, and if the lamp in the dinning room is the way you describe than this one will go much better for both rooms!!!

    good luckSmile!

  • Very nice, I really like it.  My only concern is that I like bright lights, especially for the kitchen.  I would worry that the light would not be bright enough becuase of the frosted glass.  Know what I mean?  You have to go see it in person.

  • Love the 2nd one.
  • The first one is a little too modern for me, I feel like it wouldn't be a little harsh.  I love the second one, modern but much softer.

    Good luck!
