DH and I are in the TV rut. We aren't opposed to doing something else, we've just seemed to have lost our creativity when it comes to thinking of things to do.
Please suggest some couple/group activities to do at home or around the South Florida area.
Re: Help! -- In the TV rut!
I feel you!! We are tight on money so we stay home a lot.
- We cook a lot together actually, it's fun and we even bake together too.
- We invite friends/family over or go to their houses to socialize and sometimes play board games or wii.
- We go to coffee shops or places like that in areas that are good to people watch and get some coffee, walk around, hang out....
I'll try to think of more stuff, but I would love to hear more ideas myself. We are broke!
Thanks for the suggestions.
Money is a big issue for us too. Also, it seems like our friends are so fickle when it comes to making and keeping plans. We need to plan something fun to keep their interest!
What board games do you like to play?
If you live in Broward, where do you like to go for fun?
We've been doing pot luck suppers with friends and bringing the PS3 with us. We've been having a blast and not spending alot of money
We've recently got our next door neighbors (who are our age) hooked on Dexter, so they come over on Sunday nights and we all watch it together.
DH and I have been playing scrabble so much lately that we are addicted. Monopoly, Poker, and Trivia Pursuit are "go to" games that we like to play.
We haven't played in a while, but have loads of fun playing board games. We love Tabo, and Cranium the most. Scattegories is also lots of fun. I've heard Apples to Apples is good too.

We both love Scrabble, that's the one we play the most. Other than that, we have Scattergories, Catchphrase, Monopoly, Rummikub, and Cranium. Catchphrase and Cranium are good for groups, along with poker and other fun card games.
In Broward you can go to Hardrock, Downtown Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale..
I have been wanting to do a game night with our friends where every couple of weeks/month we rotate whose house hosts it and play games. The only thing is that most of our friends are single.
I have also wanted to start a book club (with girls only) but I also don't have enough people lol.
We also go out to eat every couple of weeks and we have movie night on Friday nights with our Netflix.
Friday nights we are usually too tired to go out. We order in, or I make homemade pizza. We usually rent a movie on Pay Per View, or watch a free movie On Demand... or even catch up on our DVR shows. We always pop popcorn, and have some candy on hands... just like the movies, at a fraction of the price, and we can pause to go to bathroom! LOL
We a group of Dh's friends, we try to meet monthly at someone's house, and they host dinner. Unfortunately, w/ everyone's schedules, it is diffuclt. We just catch up and have a few drinks.
I've been trying to organize a game night w/ our friends/family, but w/ multiple kids in the group, it is hard for everyone to get babysitters on same night, and agreeing on a set day.
Restaurants.com offers great discounts at wonderful restaurants. Buy a $25 GC for like $2! Great way to save tons of money and still be able to eat out.
Other ways to save $ eating out - signup for email updates to your favorite restaurants... they sound out coupons ALL the time! Benihana gives free entree on the month of your bday (must prove bday when redeeming). Chilis offers often free appetizers/dessert. Texas de Brazil offers free entree for bday and anni.
Also, signup for "rewards" program at restaurants to collect points when eating. Some of the ones I've registered for: PFChangs (10% off bill all yr long); Shorty's (lots of offers, including free merchandise LOL); Friday's (accum points for free food)

Also, last time we were at BJ's, there was a vendor selling discount cards ($25). We purchased one from Shorty's that offers 6 free entrees (buy one, get one - 6 diff visits); 6 50% off bill, 6 BOGO beer, 6 free dessert... expires at end of yr. We have been going there a lot! We have more then gotten our money back. And you can combine offers (free entree, and free beer).
If you come across something similar, well worth it.

I feel ya, you should see our DVR, we record tons of shows! However, last thing we want to do is be sitting there for 6 hours on a Saturday watching TV and realize that the day has gone by, so we've be trying to be more active.
Especially now that it's cooler out, we love to take a long walk around the community or we love to ride our bikes! Our community has a trail, so we take that a lot, but you can also ride out to the beach and ride around. In the end you're happy because you burned off some of that couch potatoe fat and you got some fresh air. Win, win.
Every weekend we try at least 1 new recipe. I have tons of cookbooks that I never cracked open. We decided to try at least one new recipe from one of them every weekend, usually on Sundays since that's our relaxing, at home day. It's great because you learn something new and you can both do it together.
Believe it or not, we love to hang out an Barnes and Nobles! LOL On those rainy days, we head over there, and just sit in the aisles reading books and magazines. I've found some great stuff doing that and best part, there's a cafe in there. Book and coffee...great combo!
Personally, I have a list that I keep adding to of projects around the house that I want to work on. It's everything from organizing the linen closet, painting trim, to rearranging a bookcase I'm not that crazy about. It's all those little things that when you look at them you're like, "I should work on that one day when I have time". Instead of watching TV, I might take that hour or two and work on a project. I always feel really good after words because I got something on the list done. DH gets motivated too and usually works on something he's been meaning to.
I hope that helps! In regards to your friends, invite them over the night you want to try cooking something new. Or try a make your own pizza night! Do board game or Wii tournaments.
