Wedding Gown - Preserving, etc?
Hello ladies.
I still have yet to get my wedding gown dry cleaned/preserved. Have any of you done this yet, and if so, what way did you go? did you just get yours dry cleaned or did you get yours preserved? If so, what kind of place did you use - a local dry cleaner, or one of the members of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists? I purchased my gown from David's Bridal, and I know they do the preserving as well. Have any of you used them?
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, as I am trying to decide what I want to do and who I want to use. TIA !

I had my dress cleaned, preserved and boxed shortly after our wedding. I used a local dry cleaner that my dress store reccommended. I don't know if I'll do anything with my dress in the future but I loved it so much that I wanted to keep it in the best condition.
When we picked up my dress it was in 2 boxes and wrapped up. I had the dry cleaner lady unpack it to show me it was my dress. It was a lot of work for her but we paid $200 for it and I wanted to make sure it was my dress. I read internet horror stories about people getting their dresses cleaned and then years later they looked and it wasn't their dress. I'm sure she thought I was crazy but whatever I wanted to make sure it was mine.
My dress is actually getting cleaned and preserved right now. I went the David's Bridal route and hopefully I should be getting it back soon. I went mainly with David's Bridal because I have heard good things about them and they have a 20+ year guarantee. If you open your dress years from now and it has yellowing they will take it at no charge and re-clean it or whatever they do.
I will let you know how it turns out.

The bottom line is, they argue you can't wrap your dress in plastic because then it can't breathe, and if it is folded the same way for years and years permanent creases develop. They also make a strong argument for acid-free archival boxes. So after I did the wed clean for cheap cleaning, I bought my own archival box and repackaged the dress according to the second site.
Wedclean wraps in plastic so I'm sure I violated my guarantee with them, but this way I can take out my dress from time to time and refold it and it can breathe and I do actually like the box I bought better.
