Holiday traditions?

Hi all!

I would like some ideas for holiday traditions you do or that are around town.  We have been here for a few years but I just haven't picked up on anything.  Last year we went to see the Nutcracker in Ft. Worth but I'm trying to see what else is out there.  Any pretty neighborhoods with lights, etc?

TIA!

Re: Holiday traditions?

  • We do the Christmas tree lighting at Neiman Marcus in downtown Dallas.  And then we do a carriage ride in Highland Park to look at Christmas lights.  :-)

  • We ususally go see the Trains at North Park Mall, go see lights at Highland Park and Interlochen in Arlington.

  • We go see Christmas lights.  My favorites are Spring Park in Garland (Jupiter and Springpark Way, north of Campbell), Diamond Loch in N. Richland Hills, and if you're willing to make the drive, there's these three houses on the main road into the Providence neighborhood in Aubrey that are professionally done that have a killer light show.  For me, it's worth the drive to snag a spot and watch them for a good 30 minutes.  DH and I will get hot chocolate from Starbucks, listen to KVIL, and drive around.SMU's Celebration of Lights at the beginning of December is really pretty.  They light up the whole quad and sing Christmas carols on the steps of Dallas Hall.We went to the Gaylord Texan's ICE sculpture last year and that was so fun.  I'd love to go back again. You did the Nutcracker last year so see if there's another performance you're interested in seeing.  Going to a concert is a great tradition.  Maybe see something the Dallas Symphony is doing this year or go to the new opera house.

  • I 2nd the Providence light show!! We live in another neighborhood on 380, and LOVE the Providence show. It's so awesome. It's 3 houses next to each other that do it.

We have a gas station cappuccino tradition, and we'll get that and go look at lights in other areas too.

Last year we went to The Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall. It was awesome! This year my SIL and I are going to the Rocketts Christmas show though. :)

  • We just found out that there's a Christmas Tree farm in Roanoke.  We're thinking about making it a tradition to go and pick out a tree!

here's the web address if anyone's interested!

  • Oh, and ice skating at the Galleria around the Christmas tree is fun.  Then you can go to La Madeleine afterward for coffee and dessert.  :-)
