AW: BiWi: 10lbs = GONE!

Hi girls!  Sorry to be such a sparse poster lately, I lurk but can't post from my iPhone which has replaced most of my interwebbing.

Anyhoo, just wanted AW about my BiWi milestone reached, I'm down 10 pounds!  Only 5 lbs away from all baby weight being gone!!

Here are the boring details of what worked for me if you're interested:

 - no diet food, no reduced fat, no low cal, no low carb, only "real" food (with the occasional dorrito :) I eat grilled chicken w/ real mayonaise, real cheese, real butter, just less of it.  I think we get fooled by diet foods, sweetners etc, it doesn't change our behavior to make us eat less

- In BiWi fashion I write down everyhting I eat.  I use the livestrong app on my phone.  It tells you how many calories you can eat per day in order to obtain your goal, my goal is 2 pounds a week, so based on my height, I'm only budgeted 1489 calories a day.  Of course its adjusted by the amount of calories burned by working out.

 - invested in a food scale so I can eat accurate portion sizes

- invested in a digital scale that reads your weight in 10ths of a lbs, meaning it tells me that I'm 153.2 or 153.8. This is important to me because I can gauge on a daily basis how I'm doing.  If I eat a cheesburger, I can see the effect it has on my weight within a day or two in tenths of a pound, there's no more "Why am i still fat??"  Now, I know why.

 - I weight myself every morning, naked, after I pee.

- I made a little spreadsheet that I posted next to my scale that has what my weight needs to be every day (153.8, 153.4, 153.0, 152.8, etc) extended out to 12/31,  so I can see everyday if I'm on track or not.  If not, I usually know why (enter friday night cheesburger here) and can correct my behavior.  I can also see the effect sugar and carbohydrates have on my weight.  If I eat 200 calories of grilled chicken, I will weigh less than if I eat 200 calories of bread or ice cream.  Weird.

 - I try to not let myself get hungry.  When I get hungry, I make bad choices and dorrites look even more delicious.

 - I stopped running, I hate it and can only do it for 20 or 30 minutes.  I can go for a brisk walk and go for an hour or an hour and a half.  On top of that I give ella & the dog a walk and spend time w/ my hubby all at the same time. WIN!

- I bring my breakfast andlunch to work.  3 egg white every morning. I have my staples that i cook enmass and keep in my fridge for easy eating.  If I had to prepare for before I ate it, I'd proably eat really poorly beacause I'd go for what was quick and easy.  My staples are grilled chicken, cheese (blocks o gub'ment cheese from costco) that I slice w a vegetable peeler and weigh.  Turkey tacos (I grill ground turkey meat, add some taco seasoning and heat up 2 corn tortillas, 1/4 avocado, yum yum yum! ). My standard snack is an apple w/ a table spoon or two of real peanut butter. And I mean the stuff that has an ingredient statment of Peanuts and maybe salt, nothing else, no palm oil, hydrogenated oils or anything.  I was flavor, not filler. Oh, and Whole Foods has those hoppers filled w/ peanuts that you can gring fresh, the one by me has chocolate chips added to their peanuts, so I get that, it's so good!!  I just limit it to 2 tablespoons max.

And the last thing is water, I keep a 16 oz thermal cup of ice water on my desk all day and easily fill it up twice.  I drink decaf coffee all day 1/2 fat free milk, again using real sugar, but just a packet.

Whew...that's about it.  Good luck!

Re: AW: BiWi: 10lbs = GONE!

  • wow, that is great!! Congrats on your weight loss!! i can only imagine how hard it is to lose the baby weight....not something that I am looking forward to....
  • Good for you!

I'm totally on the weight loss/changing habits bandwagon too.  I think you find that once you get into new habits, it doesn't seem like such a hard thing to do.  For goodness sake I had PIZZA for lunch yesterday (4 slices no less) and stayed within my calorie allottment for the day.  It can be done!

    Great job!

  • Jamie - Uh, I've seen your maternity pics...I doubt you've but on any baby weight that won't be gone as soon as you delivr, you look a-mazing!

Amy - I totally agree, once things become a habit, it's alot less of a struggle.  I def. don't feel like I'm "dieting" I really enjoy what I'm eating, and what's funny is that if I eat a cheesburger I feel SO over stuffed that it's not worth it. And w/ the walking it's the same, we do 5 miles and I feel like I've just had a fun time w/ my family instead of dreading the feeling of "having" to go workout.

  • Way to go! 10 lbs is awesome!

I'm back on Weight Watchers and am hoping for 5 lbs lost this week.  It feels so good to be back on track.

You brought up so many valuable points, no diet foods, real foods... this is what helps keep you on track and accountable.  If we were all to limit ourselves to specific foods like that it would always be a giant fail.  It really is a lifestyle change.  Thanks for writing out what is working for you, keep up the good work.  I wish us all much success YesSmile

thanks but I am positive I have gained non-baby weight - it's hard not to over eat when you are PG and have such a big appetite!!  I have gained over 30 lbs and still climbing... you can really tell in my arms but I made sure to wear longer sleeves during most of the maternity shoot to cover them up!! the only thing that will help after I deliver is that I will be BFing so I should be burning up a lot of calories that way.  you only have a few more pounds to go, I am sure you will be there in no time!!

  • congrats way to go-sounds like you are on the right path!
  • congrats!  way to go.  i agree 110% on the no diet foods, eating real foods.  i just went to a nurtition seminar at whole foods yesterday and they were talking about the same thing...whole foods (no pun intended).

i've been going to a naturopath since the beginning of the year and haven't had any artificial sweetners, had a diet soda not that long ago...could not drink it, tasted like straight up chemicals...blech.

    woohooo, kshiz!  Party!!!

  • Wow, that is impressive!  Congrats!

And I'm so with you on the "real" ingredients.  Other than a rare diet soda, I stick to the full fat and full flavor products -- not just because they often have fewer chemical fillers, but because I enjoy them more and get satisfied with just a taste.  I used to struggle with the chub, but since sticking with the real food (in moderation), staying thin has been pretty easy.

I'll keep all this in mind when it's my turn to burn the baby weight.  Keep it up!

  • Good job!  Keep it up!

I'm already thinking about what I'm gonna do to lose baby weight, too.  Tongue Tied

  • Awesome job!! I am going to keep that in mind when it comes to maintaining my weight...I just started weightwatchers and it's working for me right now.

     Again, great job!!!

  • Good for you!

I'm not even anywhere near prego and i want to lose about 15 lbs! Hehe...maybe i should really consider WW this week..

  • Thanks ladies :)  WW is a great program too!

  • Kristen, that is awesome!!  It sounds like you've lost the weight by making lots of great lifestyle changes, something that'll be easier to maintain than strict dieting.  I should show your post to John because he's been talking about wanting to lose weight and I want to show him that it doesn't have to be torture.

Good luck on those last 5 pounds!  Smile

  • That's awesome!  Good for you for figuring out what's working for you!
  • That is such great news, awesome job to make it happen!  I love that you made a spreadsheet with expected weights so you can check it everyday, I will definitely be using that idea!

I gained 70lbs and still have half of it to go a year later.  I'm hoping after my surgery next week, I can get the ball rolling again because I really hate being fat.
