Any stir-fry pointers/ recipes?
I've never made it before and want to try tonight. Here's what I have so far:
beef, squash, peas, broccoli, peppers, rice noodles
I was just going to toss everything together (once cooked) with some soy sauce, seaseme oil, and miso.
Any tips for a first timer? Fav recipes?
Thanks!
Re: Any stir-fry pointers/ recipes?
I know that you should use high heat and keep the food moving. Have all your ingredients prepped and ready to go prior to starting.
Cook in order of food that takes the longest, to the least... adding each as you go.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out!
That sounds good. Are you using zucchini or summer squash, or a winter squash? I think the winter ones might not work well- and slice the others thinly, so they cook through faster.
I always play it by ear for stir fries- I usually start with browning some onions and garlic in oil, then add the meat to cook through, then add soy sauce or whatever (I think usually I use lime juice, fresh ginger, and soy or teriyaki sauce) and then the veggies. I haven't done much with rice noodles, but the few times I have, I softened them by pouring boiling water over them, and letting them sit for a few minutes (whatever it said on the box) and then added them to the stir fry at the very end.
ETA: ditto high heat and keep stirring it around.?
lol now I want stir fry, too! We got a wok for the wedding, and I still haven't used it.?
The Wok is your friend.
If it were me, I'd marinate the beef for several minutes first. I usually use a mixture of oyster sauce, soy sauce, and a little sugar. A dash of sesame oil would be OK too. Otherwise it doesn't come out with much flavor.
The squash sounds like a slightly odd ingredient to me, but then I'm used to Chinese stir fries. As for the noodles, I'd cook them separately with some flavoring and then pour the rest of the stuff on top.
