I've been looking at a few important dates for the last week, and have decided to skip a semester of school next year.
At first I thought I could make it work if I picked a class that only had assignments and no final exam (like the one I'm taking this semester), but even that won't work. The semester starts in Feb and ends in June, and these babies are due May 3, which means they'll probably arrive in early April - and I know there's just no way I'd be able to cope with even just doing a couple assignments from April to June while trying to cope with twins and sleep deprivation and all the changes that will be happening in our lives. I know some people do it and they have my total respect, but honestly, I just don't think I'm that heroic.
I'm kind of bummed because I had to work so hard just to get to this point, but I know I can easily pick it back up the following semester and I do think it's the right decision...I'm just feeling kind of sad now that I've made up my mind.
Re: I'm skipping a semester :-(
Sorry you're sad, but keep the faith! Like you said, when you're ready to start up again you'll pick it all right up! You are in a major transition in your life and you're smart to scale back school so you can welcome your twins with the least amount of auxillary stress in your life.
J registered today for next semester and is scaling back from 4 classes to 3 since Libby will arrive just as school is getting started and he's going be staying home with her when I go back to work. So he is taking two classes that meet once a week...3-6 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. and then one online class. It's scaled back more than he'd like, but he realizes it's the best choice...so that he can continue on his path to his degree, but also be home with the baby for the first 6 months before we have to put her in daycare (which will be in August when he goes back to school fulltime). That way, the three of us can also have the time (I hope to be home for 10 weeks and then home parttime for another 6 weeks) to adjust to life together.

Cerclage placed @ 21w6d due to CI (IC)
I'm sorry, I know how a school delay can be a real bummer. Personally, I think it'll be good for you not to have the stress or looming deadlines to worry about while nearing the end of your pregnancy and especially once the LOs arrive.
For me, I am in the final revisions stage of my dissertation (which I have been working on for TWO years now), yet I have to wait till late January (at the earliest) to file it due to a delay in my registration paperwork. Anyhow, I'm really worried about having to fly to California while 7 months pregnant just to file this thing. If that doesn't work, I have to do it after baby arrives, but then I have to travel with a one month old! Bummer on both counts!
But honestly, I think taking care of myself and my LO first will ultimately be less stressful than if I worried about the exact logistics or fast-track timeline of school. No one will care if you finished your program one semester later... you'll still finish and you'll do it in your own time. Good luck and even though you're bummed, be glad that you are already making such good decisions as a mommy.
That is too bad...but I definitely agree that you are making the right decision. You are going to think about this at some point in April and say to yourself, "thank goodness I took the semester off!"
You'll be able to get back into it once you get into a schedule with the boys/girls (or wait, one of both? haha, that's just me channeling your MIL).
But if you give birth on the plane, maybe they will give you and your LO free flights for life! (Did you see that news story the other day, that was pretty awesome.)
