This idea just popped into my head.

Do you ever get crazy ideas that pop into your head?

Help me figure out the pro's and cons of this.

DH is currently 28, will be 29 in Feb.

I'm thinking, if I start a little saving account now, I could surprise him for his 30th birthday, and we can go to Italy.

Pro's - I would get awesome wife points.  DH has always wanted to go. It's Italy.

Con's - Could get preggers between now and then. If we purchased a house in the near future, the money should go towards that.  I would be doing all the planning, and may miss something that he would really want to do.

How do you plan a trip to Italy, is it easier w/ a travel agent?

Should I do it? or Na?  (like I said...this just popped into my head).

Re: This idea just popped into my head.

  • Pros and cons taken into consideration it seems like a great idea (if you can hold off TTC). With so much time between now and then you might be able to find an awesome deal, plus you can slowly put away money for it. Italy would be so awesome.

  • Oh yes! You should absolutely do this. I'd plan for it anyway, and just see how the house/TTC goes.

I never use TA's, but if you haven't traveled a lot, it might be easier. Here is one site I like to play around with to get ideas (I have this bug in my head to go to Paris for our 1 yr anniversary):

  • If he's always wanted to go, it's either now, or after the kids are older, 'cause it's a pain to drag a stroller around Europe.

Italy is pretty damn fantastic. I've been lucky enough to go 3 times and could still go back again. There's so much history and art and beauty and the food is pretty much the best on the planet.

We used a travel agent before, but honestly, my Mom and I plan better trips on our own. We use Tripadvisor.com to scope out the hotels, plus a Rick Steves' travel book to determine where to go, what to see, and how long to stay there (his website is bare bones on the info, but the books are awesome). Between those, we've had some great vacations.

I say do it now. To quote you: "It's Italy"!

  • Do It!!! No questions asked.

    Awesome idea ;)?

  • Great idea... DH and I have been thinking about doing a 2 week European vacation for either our 5 year wedding anniversary or to celebrate both of our 30th birthdays since they are only 3 months apart.  Depends on if we have enough money saved up / where we are with kiddos / jobs if we get to go for our 30th birthday which would be 2011.
  • Go, for sure!
