Anyone familiar with the Miami area?
If so, where is a good place to stay? We are most likely going to be staying in Miami for a few nights in January, and have no clue where we want to stay. When I look at hotels on expedia it divides Miami hotels into one of the following areas: Coconut Grove/Coral Gabels, Downtown Miami, Key Biscane, Miami Beach-South Beach, Miami Airport, and south Miami. So any rec's or any areas to avoid? Thanks!

Re: Anyone familiar with the Miami area?
I am! Can you please tell me more about what you like to do, how much you want to spend/what kind of trip you want to have (relaxing vs. exciting) etc...Your experience can vary greatly depending on what area you stay in. In general, I would eliminate the MIA airport area, Downtown or South Miami.?
I would stay on South Beach, Key Biscayne or Coral Gables. But I can give you better options if you let me know more.?
South Beach is obviously more glitzy and club/bar/'scene'-y. I really love it there though. Key Biscayne is really peaceful and ?beautiful. I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton there and of course, loved it. Coral Gables/Coconut Grove is closer to the University of Miami so there are a lot of fun bars, great restaurants and unique hang-outs. It's not as snooty as parts of South Beach can be, but it's still very upscale. Coconut Grove is really very fun, we love it there.
My favorite Miami hotels ever are: The Delano (on SoBe), The Ritz (Key Biscayne) and the Mandarin Oriental (which is its own little universe on Brickell Key). The Loewe's and Fountainbleu are also nice. HTH!
