Bad morning

I just got back from my doctor's office where I found out I have a mass on my ovary the size of an orange. My doctor is optimistic that it is totally benign and could even resolve itself but he scheduled an ultrasound to be sure. Surgery is also a very real possibility here given the size and my pain level (I've had lower abdominal pain for a week now). He told me that he couldn't rule out ovarian cancer either but the chance was very small and not to lose sleep over it. I just feel like crap now though. I'm a little scared and worried but I'm trying to stay hopeful that this is just a normal cyst and it will resolve on its own.

Re: Bad morning

  • Oh no. I'm so sorry. My thoughts are you with you, KB. I'm hoping it all turns out to be nothing or just a regular cyst.

  • Oh my gosh KB, I am so sorry to hear this. This may sound strange, but reading this made me very hopeful for you though. It sounds like your doctor is really on it and being aggressively proactive about it. You were so smart to have it checked out and it sounds like your doctor is doing everything right. You will be in my prayers!!
  • So sorry you have to deal with this.  Like PP said, it sounds like your dr. is taking an aggressive approach to it so hopefully you will be pain and cyst free soon!

  • So sorry you are dealing with this KB... that sucks.  Hopefully the doc is right and its benign and you can get it taken care of soon.  T&P to you.
  • Sorry to hear that KB. Hopefully it will be nothing and that is great about your doctor being on top of things like pp's said. Thinking of you and you'll be in my prayers.

  • Thanks ladies, I really appreciate it. I had a hair cut scheduled this morning and after venting everything to my stylist I feel a lot better, not to mention my hair looks much better. I'm just debating now on telling my mom since I know she'll freak but she'll probably be upset with me if I told her after the fact too. Ugh.

  • KB -- I'm going to email you on FB I can totally relate I had a similar situation.
  • Thoughts and Prayers go out to you!  Keep your head up!
  • Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, but it seems as though you and your doctor are on top of things. I will be thinking of you and you'll be in my prayers.

  • Oh no KB! I hope you're able to take the doc's advice and not lose any sleep :(.  How long until you hear?
  • Soooo weird. My mom just called me because she said she "felt the need to check if I was okay". Of course I burst into tears on the phone but I'm relieved that I've talked to her now and she was very calm about the whole thing.

ETA: My ultrasound is scheduled for Nov. 9th so I should have an update then.

  • I am so sorry to hear that,  like pp said, I am glad your Dr seems to be on top of everything. Isn't it weird how sometimes our moms know to call us, especially when we are debating calling them? I will keep you in my prayers, and keep hoping it resolves itself.

  • Yikes what a scary situation to be in.  I hope everything turns out positive.
  • KB, so sorry to hear about this. It's good that your doctor is taking steps to look into it more. I had to have a lump biopsy last year, which wasn't fun, but in the end, everything was okay. My point in telling you this is that it was really scary at the time and I totally understand the not knowing and waiting. Keep us updated and stay strong.
  • KB, I'm so sorry :( I hope everything is okay. Please update us after your ultrasound. It's a good thing you went to the doctor - I probably would have ignored something like that!

  • Thoughts and prayers are with you!  I had a friend that had one the size of a grapefruit...she def had to have it removed, but she's been fine ever since and has had 2 kids.  At your age, I'd think ovarian cancer would be very rare, but I know it's a scary situation nonetheless.  Please keep us posted!
  • Oh, girl, that SUCKS!  I am so sorry that you have to go through the stress of this!  I am totally confident that it is benign and, years from now, will just be a blip on your memory, but that is terrible you have to go through this now.

Years ago my dr. found a lump in my breast and sent me for an ultrasound to rule out cancer.  It was totally nothing, I have lumpy breasts, but that week where I was waiting for the ultrasound was one of the worst, I remember.  I am hoping the very best for you.

  • Oh KB how yucky that you're having to deal with this right now.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  Sounds like you are taking all the necessary steps, and hopefully the wait won't be too hard on you.  Stay strong girl!

  • So sorry to hear this, but so glad it was found and they are doing something about it.

Hopefully its benign.  I know how scary it is to have a mass in that general area (mine were uterine).  I'm hoping yours turns out to be nothing to worry about to and that you get resolution soon...the waiting and not knowing sucks.
