The winds of change are blowing through Thebes. A devastating palace fire has killed the Eighteenth Dynasty?s royal family?all with the exception of Nefertari, the niece of the reviled former queen, Nefertiti. The girl?s deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. A relic of a previous reign, Nefertari is pushed aside, an unimportant princess left to run wild in the palace. nova - have you read the passion of artemisia? that was excellent historical fiction (and if you are into art/art history so much the better)?
thanks cheeky, I hadn't heard of The Passion of Artemisia before but I added it to my TBR list.
I've heard great things about Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The House at Riverton gets such mixed reviews, I'm curious to hear what you think about it. It's been on my TBR list for a while but I'm not in a huge rush to read it.

That is really funny!!
I just finished reading the Lost Symbol, Dan Brown's new book. It was ok. I liked Angels and Demons much better, followed by Davinci Code, then this one. I feel like he was trying too hard this time, I wasn't as into it.
Now, the Twilight board is doing a Twilight and New Moon re-read, leading up to the new movie, so I am almost finished with Twilight (for the THIRD time!).
Nova - that book sounds awesome! I'll have to look into it. And i take it you've read The Other Boleyn Girl? I loved it but the movie sucked @ss.

I asked for so many books for my bday last year and DH got me all of them and i think i've only read half! And then i borrowed Kite Runner and Black Dahlia from a friend and feel like i've had them long enough and need to return them soon.

I loved TOBG! I read it when it first came out and that's what got me started on historical fiction. I thought the Kite Runner was a really good book, not a happy book but it was very good.
I usually get my books from either paperbackswap.com or the library. I had been making a decent dent in my bookshelf at home but a whole string of library books came in one after another so I've been reading those.
Next up is Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.
Just finished reading the lovely bones and now starting The Sookie Stackhouse novels.
I loved The History of Love - but I know what you mean.
I haven't read anything in forever - I know its terrible. I've been reading a lot of cookbooks and recipes - does that count? I have a few books on my holiday wish list (Nurture Shock & The Omnivore's Dilemma).

I actually keep goodreads list and an excel sheet so that I know what I read when.
Nova ? That book sounds great. I also love historical fiction. My favorite in that genre is Devil in a White City. It is about the Chicago World's Fair.
I am in the middle of The Lovely Bones and Taking Charge of Your Fertility (LOL).
Liza, I really liked Omnivore's Dilemma! Very informative without being *too* preachy/judgy, and also had a nice story/personal journey woven in to it.

I'm pretty late here, but I've read two, very different, but both very good books lately. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo I read for a book club, it was hard to get into, but once in I was completely absorbed. It was very suspensful, way more twisted that I initially anticipated at times. Set in Sweeden, a murder mystery with a twist. If you aren't into heavier books this one might not be for you, my friends either loved it, or hated it.
The other one was hands down one one of my recent favorites. Yellow Raft in Blue Water. It's the story of a 3 of women told in generations. The first is from the granddaughter's point of view (a teenager in the 60's or 70's, half Black, half Native American in Seattle), then the mother's story, then the grandmother. It was beautiful and stunning. The grandmother's story, after hearing the first two perspectives, just blew me away. It makes you think deeply about generational differences and all the things that get lost in a family through the years. I recommend it highly!

Planning Bio Married Bio
I'm really late to this party, but I wanted to chime in because I've been reading a ton lately (probably due to all the traveling for weddings this month). I finally jumped on board and read The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Both were excellent, but I liked ATSS much better. Then I read The Lovely Bones and Lucky. Good, but so intense. I found Lucky to be a tough read.
I just finished The Help, which I really enjoyed. Now I'm reading Sarah's Key, which I'm finding to be just ok.
October has been a good month for reading!
