We are doing a fall foods lunch thing tomorrow at work and everyone wants to wear costumes. I voted NO on costumes, but everyone else wants them. I have a hard enough time finding a costume for a party with friends, much less one that is work appropriate and comfortable enough to be in for 8 hours. Just wondering how common it is. I feel like a Scrooge.
Do you and your co-workers dress up at work for halloween?
Re: Costumes at work?
I did once years ago and I went as a chef/cook though I didn't wear the chefs hat at all felt stupid lol just wore an apron over my normal work clothes.
You could try to dress up as one of your co workers that would be funny. Another easy thing would to be a sport player or fan and where sports attire.
I don't really need ideas, I was just wondering if this was the norm. I think it is weird to dress up at work.
Many people in my office dress up each year, it's part of a fund-raiser for our charity. One group in particular always does a theme for their department, which I think is a bit heavy-handed--they do have people opt out, but there's pressure to be part of the group. My costume this year would be comfortable to wear all day, but I don't think I want to dress up for work (I've told co-workers what my costume is, and I'll wear it to a party Saturday night, but at work I'd feel uncomfortable)
And we do have people who are offended by the halloween holiday in general (religious objection) and they generally try to work from home on the dress-up day to avoid the whole thing.
I'd say if you're not comfortable in your costume, then don't dress up--leave it up to individuals to decide what they're comfortable with.

Someone always does, nothing major, maybe a witch hat or something, but it comes off as very unprofessional and out of place in our office.
We never have until this year. On Friday we're having a Halloween party and everyone is (supposed) to dress up and they can bring in their kids/pets to "trick-or-treat" office to office. It's pretty corny but I'm corny, so I love it
I think I'm just going to keep it simple and go as a black cat...wear all black, throw on some ears and I'm good to go!
Oh - our work gets into it. The president of the company dresses up every year and passes out candy. Its funny to see what he comes up with. We also do floor challenges and this year our theme is the 80'. My boss is so into it, she created her own little mini thriller dance and taught us all, so we are all dressing up as zombies and doing the thriller dance. I dont mind them for work since we are only in them for a bit, however, my DH is driving me nuts trying to find the best costume ever. We have a big party to attend on Friday and I can say we dont have much yet. Its going to be a long night tonight!
I work at a sports club and the people here love to dress up! Even the people who come to work out wear something small for the day. We are doing ours on friday and even have a contest for best costume and they also have lunch provided for us. We also have a small trick or treat for the kids around 10. I would say about 45% of our staff dresses up and tend to always have fun!!!
We had dress up day Tuesday. I was sick and missed it. Darn.
Apparently, my *favorite* co-irker dressed up as a hippie. Someone said, 'Love it, flower child!' She said, "I'm not a flower child, I'm a hippie!" Smart one, she is.
