My cousin is getting divorced, card/gift idea ??

My cousin & I are very close, and have been our entire lives, but I'm just not sure how this would go over.

I really don't want to go into any personal details, just in case someone might know her / her H, you know? But basically he screwed up, and she's had a really tough year.

The divorce should be final in the next couple of months, and we're already talking about how she'll be able to put 2009 behind her, and move on to good things in 2010.

So... I'm thinking of getting her a divorce present? Maybe a salon/spa gift certificate so she can pamper herself?

WDYT?

I guess I just think about DH. When he divorced XW (before we even met, just so ya know, LOL), once it was final he took what little $$ he had left, and took a cruise, as a divorce present to himself. It was something just for him, a way to kick of his new life after a rough couple of years.
Well, my cousin will be a single mom after this, so I know she won't be spending any $$ on herself, so I thought maybe a salon/spa gift certificate would be a way she can do something just for her, after her rough year.

WDYT?

TIA!

  • I think it is a good idea. I would not make a big think about it, but just let her know that you care for her and want her to be able to relax for a bit. If you live close enough maybe also offer to babysit. Make sure that the little things that she would have to do that day are done so she could really relax.
  • Champagne?  Or if this is a sad thing for her a thinking of you card?

  • I think the spa gift certificate sounds like a really nice idea.  I'm sure she'll appreciate a little pampering and relaxation.
  • Depends on the person.  A friend of mine is getting divorced next month, and we're having a "Bachelorette" party for her.  It's more of a welcome back to the single life by getting drunk night.  She would hate a spa day, but it's a personal thing.

If she's that kind of girl, I'm sure it would be appreciated.
