Another Louisville question

I am thinking about surprising DH with a trip to Louisville the weekend after his birthday November 18th. He really likes the comedian Tim Wilson and he's at the Improv plus Churchill is running so I figure he would be surprised with a trip if I have both of those things booked ahead of time especially since I HATE Tim Wilson!

Anyway... I read last week's post about Louisville but can someone recommend some nice hotels near the 4th street live area. Preferrably within walking distance if possible. I know a few recommended 21C but I am looking for other recos also. DH and I aren't really 21C type of people. We are simple folk and a Holiday Inn will work just fine for me! I just want something clean and as close to 4th street live as possible.

TIA

Re: Another Louisville question

  • We stayed at the Hyatt and really enjoyed it.  It was less than a 5 minute walk to 4th Street Live and they had an Einstein Bros., which is awesome.

Churchill is so much fun and the hotel gave us tickets to get in free and sit in their seats.  Have fun!

I second the Hyatt.  I love that it within walking distance---and when I stayed there, the rates weren't awful for being right in downtown.

  • I LOVE the Brown Hotel. It is an historic hotel with gorgeous rooms.
  • I "third" the Hyatt because they have great size rooms for a good price but there's also the Seelbach (smaller rooms but cute and quaint) and the Brown hotel.

There's also the Galt House and if you stay there request to stay on the suite (east) side (biggest room out of all the other hotels for a comparable price). If you can't stay on the east side, it's really not worth it. Also if you stay at the Galt House do NOT eat at Cafe Magnolia (3 co-workers had food poisoning from there).
