Re: Poll: Growing Up
1. At what age did you first start to like boys? I remember having my first crush in kindergarten! LOL I guess I started early.
2. When did you start:
Wearing heels? I always tried to get away with some kind of heel, but my mom never let me wear them until I was about 15-16
Wearing makeup? I wore only lipgloss until I was 15, then moved up to mascara and blush, at 17 I was allowed to really wear what I wanted.
Dating? I always had guy friends, but never really had a boyfriend, I think I had a short attention span and didn't have the patience for guys when I was a teenager. I didn't have a serious boyfriend until DH.
Your first kiss? DH was my first kiss at the age of 23
3. Did your mom give you a hard time when it came to boys, makeup, and all of those other things that signal getting older? My dad was the worst when it came to boys, my mom handled the rest. She let me be girly, but she was very conscious about me looking like one of those girls that was wearing stuff to "advanced" for her age, as she used to put it. As a result, heels, makeup, clothes, all that was closely kept an eye on by my mom.
4. At what age did you start shaving your legs? Did your mom know? I started shaving at around 11-12. Mainly because I begged my mom. I was conscious of the fact that I hated the way my legs looked and the other girls were shaving, so she took me to the store and bought me my first razor.
5. When did you start to feel like you were finally "a woman"? I think when I hit 18, I came into my own more, started college, and became more independant.
6. If you have a daughter now or in the future, what would you keep in mind to teach her that you learned growing up? Even though I hated it, I would probably do the same with her when it came to makeup, heels, and all that stuff. In the end, I realized my mom was right, I did everything at the right moment for me. I'll just have to keep an eye on my daughter and figure out what her time is. I would also teach her to make friends with all sorts of people. I grew up with girls that were really clicky and when I tried to branch out they gave me a hard time. It wasn't until I hit college that I felt more free. I will teach her to branch out in spite of clicks.
7. Have you ever had your heart broken? I've been in angst, but never heartbroken.
8. Did you have close girlfriends growing up? Guy friends? Yes, I had one or two close friends at the time, my sister was always my confidant. And I always had one or two guy friends to hang out with.
9. Girly girl or tomboy? I was a major combination of the two. I realized it because I loved the girly stuff, but I was one of the only girls that would dive in and get dirty with the guys too.
10. If there's a moment in time where you wish you could go back and talk to yourself, what would it be? Middle School! I would shake myself and be like, "Stop trying to get these people to like you!" I always wanted to make friends, sometimes it got in the way.
1. At what age did you first start to like boys? My mom says when I was really little like 5, 6 or 7 ish I used to tell my parents "Im a teenager and I have boyfriend." I must have learned it from an older cousin or something lol. I remember I was in LUST with JTT from Home improvement. As far as I can remember though, my first boyfriend was in fifth grade.
2. When did you start:
Wearing heels? I don't remember! lol. I dont think I recall my mother not allowing me to wear heels. I know at my first communion my shoes had a low heel.
Wearing makeup? 8th Grade. I never needed makeup thankfully but I think I started buying it at 8th grade.
Dating? 6th grade was my first real date. To the movies. Ahhh
Your first kiss? 6th Grade
3. Did your mom give you a hard time when it came to boys, makeup, and all of those other things that signal getting older? Nope. My mom was cool she would drive me to the movies and stuff with the boys. She was a great chaperone. My Dad on the other hand had a tough time. He was very overprotective.
4. At what age did you start shaving your legs? Did your mom know? I think 5th grade when I first got my AF.
5. When did you start to feel like you were finally "a woman"? Hmmmmm. Im not sure. I never really thought to myself I am a woman today lol
6. If you have a daughter now or in the future, what would you keep in mind to teach her that you learned growing up? Yep. I think I will probably be easygoing like my Mom. not too early but not to restrictive either. I turned out pretty ok.
7. Have you ever had your heart broken? yep
8. Did you have close girlfriends growing up? Guy friends? I had more guy friends than girlfriends. I have always had a tough time with girlfriends. I am very sensitive and get hurt easily. Guy friends were so much more friendly. Less catty. Less jealous. Then again, I fell in love with my best guy friend and then that turned out to be horrible.
9. Girly girl or tomboy? Girly girl.
10. If there's a moment in time where you wish you could go back and talk to yourself, what would it be? probably around my first kiss..it was not memorable. I think if I could go back I would have held out for a nicer person/moment.
2. When did you start:
Wearing heels? Started wearing heels in junior high and high heels around the time I turned 18.
Wearing makeup? Always wore makeup because I was in dance you had to put on a face for the stage, that is what my dance teacher would call it. call it. As far as wearing just cuz and not to perform around 18.
Dating? I started dating when I was 16.
Your first kiss? 14
3. Did your mom give you a hard time when it came to boys, makeup, and all of those other things that signal getting older? No my mom was ok with it, She was not to happy about the hanky panky part though. LOL
4. At what age did you start shaving your legs? Did your mom know? 12 she didnt know but I had to tell her because I cut the hell out of my leg because I didn't know what I was doing. I am still scared to this day about shavers. I use electric shaver or wax. You really can't see the hair on my legs because it blends in with my skin color
5. When did you start to feel like you were finally "a woman"? When I moved out on my own at 19.
6. If you have a daughter now or in the future, what would you keep in mind to teach her that you learned growing up? Any and everything I am not going to be afraid to talk to my daughter about anything, because my mom was held nothing back from us.
7. Have you ever had your heart broken? Of Course uuuggghh It still hurts LOL
8. Did you have close girlfriends growing up? Guy friends? Both
9. Girly girl or tomboy? both growing up but now def girly
10. If there's a moment in time where you wish you could go back and talk to yourself, what would it be? I would tell myself to never fully trust a man because they will tell you anything to get in your pants. Not DH though. LOL

1. At what age did you first start to like boys?
My first crush was Noah Kokoa in pre-k! I will never forget that silly name. I remember I wanted to give him a card for Valentines Day lol.
2. When did you start:
Wearing heels?
I always wore small heels with dresses. I probably started wearing real heels in high school, when I was 15. I rarely wore them though, only for special occassions or dates.
Wearing makeup?
I started wearing powder, lip gloss, and clear mascara (how pointless is that?!) when I was 13.
Dating?
I went on my first date when I was 15. We went to get ice cream at the mall and then went to the movies. I had to be home by like 9:30pm lol. He was a senior and I was a freshmen, so my parents were a lil wary.
Your first kiss?
I was 16.
3. Did your mom give you a hard time when it came to boys, makeup, and all of those other things that signal getting older?
Not at all! I am the youngest of 5 and the second girl so my mom was very reasonable. She didn't let me do whatever I wanted, but she was fair. I was able to wear makeup when other girls did, I was able to date as long as I was home at curfew and the guy had come over and met my parents, etc. I do remember that being allowed to wear a bikini at 14 was a HUGE deal. My dad wanted me to wait until I was 16...
4. At what age did you start shaving your legs? Did your mom know?
I started shaving my legs and underams when I was 11 and I needed to! I am not a hairy girl, but I was going through puberty and black hairs are not cute! My mom was supportive, but didn't want me shaving above my knees for some reason lol. I still think that is funny.
5. When did you start to feel like you were finally "a woman"?
I think when I went away to college I felt like a grown up and a woman. Looking back now, I was so young and immature.
6. If you have a daughter now or in the future, what would you keep in mind to teach her that you learned growing up?
Definitely. I think my parents raised me very well. They were very very open to me about sex my entire life and they were strict about certain things and reasonable about others. I think they were great parents and allowed me freedom, but not to run wild.
7. Have you ever had your heart broken?
When my DH and I broke up after our seven year anniversary, I was seriously heart broken and never thought we would get back together. Thank God everything worked out!
8. Did you have close girlfriends growing up? Guy friends?
I had a couple of girlfriends growing up, but definitely got along better with the boys. There were literally about 12-15 boys in my neighborhood that I hung out with almost every single day. I still talk to some of them, they were a huge part of my life growing up!
9. Girly girl or tomboy?
Tomboy until puberty. Once I got out of that weird and awkward stage, I started wanting to look more girly and get more attention from boys.
10. If there's a moment in time where you wish you could go back and talk to yourself, what would it be?
My junior year when I was drinking at a party and being very irresponsible! Thank God nothing bad happened in the end, but I put myself in a dangerous situation and it could have been horrible.

Your first kiss? 18 ? I was in college!
3. Did your mom give you a hard time when it came to boys, makeup, and all of those other things that signal getting older? Very much so, for example, I wasn?t allowed to wear skirts above my knee. And I had a curfew even in my first year of college.
4. At what age did you start shaving your legs? Did your mom know? 14, I begged her.
5. When did you start to feel like you were finally "a woman"? Somewhere between 14 (menstruating) and 18 (when I finally had to shave my underarms).
6. If you have a daughter now or in the future, what would you keep in mind to teach her that you learned growing up? Just b/c they are doing it, doesn?t mean you have to or should. Less is more. You attract more flies with sugar/honey than salt. Take care of your skin and teeth.
7. Have you ever had your heart broken? Twice, once was by my DH but that was nearly 8 years ago.
8. Did you have close girlfriends growing up? Guy friends? Sometimes more guys than girls
9. Girly girl or tomboy? At times, both
10. If there's a moment in time where you wish you could go back and talk to yourself, what would it be? When I was a junior in high school, I would have told myself that I had more potential than I thought I had, and that I could go to any college that I wanted to.
1. At what age did you first start to like boys? The first crush that I can remember was in 3rd grade
2. When did you start:
Wearing heels? I don't remember when I started wearing heels, but I remember wearing chunky low healed shoes when I was in 5 or 6th grade.
Wearing makeup? I still don't wear makeup! I actually only wear makeup for big occassions. I remember wearing lipstick as early as 5th/6th grade. I started wearing makeup for nice occassion when I was around 14.
Dating? I had my first date in 7th grade
Your first kiss? Same guy as my first date
3. Did your mom give you a hard time when it came to boys, makeup, and all of those other things that signal getting older? Not really
4. At what age did you start shaving your legs? Did your mom know? I shaved my legs in 2nd grade for the first time because I heard the older girls on the school bus talking about it. One day I told one of my brother's friends, she told my brother and my brother told on me. That was the end of that. I was finally about to shave my legs with my mom's permission the summer going into 6th grade.
5. When did you start to feel like you were finally "a woman"? I don't think I ever really felt that kind of moment.
6. If you have a daughter now or in the future, what would you keep in mind to teach her that you learned growing up? To value herself and not to do something just because everyone else is doing it. To stand for something because otherwise she'll fall for anything.
7. Have you ever had your heart broken? Yep
8. Did you have close girlfriends growing up? Guy friends? I had close guy friends growing up
9. Girly girl or tomboy? tomboy
10. If there's a moment in time where you wish you could go back and talk to yourself, what would it be? I'd go back to junior high and tell myself to stop worrying about what other people think about you! Thankfully when I got to high school I got over it.
