what would you wear for this costume?

I'm going to a murder mystery tomorrow night and not sure what to wear, was wondering if you ladies had any ideas.

My character is an old lady socialite (not sure how old, my guess is 50'60's), she's also a cougar and after one of the other "dashing young male" characters.

all I can think of so far is big hair, bad make up and big jewelery. I'm stuck for what actual clothes to wear (doesn't help much that a lot of my clothes don't really fit right now either!

any ideas?

Re: what would you wear for this costume?

  • My ideas: black dress, stole or pashmina = but faux fur would kick butt, pearls, cigarette holder (hilarious on a PG woman), heels, something in a leopard print, big cocktail rings.

I have nothing further to add - this is pretty much fantastic

  • In addition to Canadian Bio's suggestions, I am picturing shiny shoes (patent leather/vinyl)

Really bad make-up (think foundation that is a shade or 2 too dark for your skin tone), blue eye shadow

  • Red cats eye glasses? I was going to say leopard print too...

  • sounds great.  I've also seen *yes, I did see this in a bar!* an older lady between 50 and 60 in a red mini skirt, red tank top and a matching red polka dot jacket.  However that may not scream socialite, haha.

  • I would wear a feathery boa and definitely some leopard print!

I've always wanted to go to a murder mystery they sound so fun!

  • Thanks ladies, all fanastic ideas. I'm off to Value Village to see what I can find to create the look!

I've never been to a murder mystery either, I hope my character doesn't die too early into the game!

  • First thing that came to my mind was Peggy Bundy.
