We parked C's car in the lot down the street last night so I could leave mine in our garage spot and sleep in. I woke up with him anyway and got dressed in real clothes instead of "work pajamas". It was raining and I was up and dressed so I offered to drive him to his car b/c I know he hates walking in the rain and dark and cold and he was sweet to give me the option to sleep in. I took my rain jacket even though I didn't plan to be outside at all. Since I had my jacket and I was in the car, I took the car to the mechanic next to the lot (not our regular mechanic) for an oil change. When there, I ran into a woman I know from synagogue. We started talking about PhDs and she insisted she and her husband give me a ride home. On the way, they asked if I'm job hunting. I said I am but not sure what I want to do. And I got a ton of resources from them! Including someone who works for IBM research - something I've been considering but didn't know how to even start looking in to.
It was one of those mornings that made me think, there's gotta be some force that would make all these tiny things work together so nicely.
Anyone else ever have days like that?
Re: Believing in higher power/fate/karma
That happens to me so much! I love stories like this!
The most recent one that gave me chills involves my brother.
He has a patent and is going through the process of getting prototypes made and marketing research done which costs lawyer's fees and paperwork fees. In short, he needs investors.
Literally 2 days after my brother called my mom worried he wasn't going to be able to make this happen, my mom was at the grocery store and saw the same man she has seen there for the past 5 years. They always nod and say hello but have never talked before. Well, he came up to my mom and said "I have a problem. I am rich and I want to help someone with this money." So my mom told him about my brother and they've had 2 meetings about him investing in his patent! So random and weird--of course, I don't believe it's random at all, but I do believe that anything can happen through God's power. It seriously gives me chills to think of all of the 'coincidences' that have happened in my life to get me where I am now.?
That is the craziest story I've ever heard. I wish someone would come up to me and tell me they're rich and need to give away some money! (If he has some leftover, please tell him to contact me.) Really so cool.
My story is a little less exciting for me now because since the car is at the mechanic, I can't see my nephew after all because the rain changed their schedule and they won't be staying as long. Also, I forgot to leave the keys to my car there. Oh well.

I definitely believe in a higher power/fate/karma/everything like that.
2 nights before our wedding one of DH's drunk groomsmen accidently let our cat outside at 4am when they came home from the bars. she's an inside cat and declawed and a big princess so she wouldn't be able to last too long outside by herself. She was outside for probably about an hour before DH came and woke me up to help them look. Theres a lot of woods/high grasses by our apt so I was super worried that she was down there and lost and that we wouldn't be able to find her before our wedding/honeymoon craziness. I started to pray that we would find her and honestly 1 minute later for some reason I was lead to the outside staircase that's 1 over from ours where I never would have looked. She was waiting at the top at the same place our door would be. She was safe and tried to come home but just got a little confused.
I also like to think how I met DH was a little bit of fate. He had to stay an extra semester at college his senior year, and that was my first semester as a freshman. He always complained about not being able to graduate on time but I tell him if he did he never would have met me.
And Red Zee, my dad has worked at IBM for almost 40 years, it's a great company, I hope it works out for you!
I used to do whitewater raft guiding. We had to have first aid and CPR certifications annually. The day we were refreshed in how to backboard someone, on my way home I stopped at Taco Bell and was in the drive thru line for the LONGEST TIME EVER...seriously like 5 minutes of not moving at all. That was just before getting on the highway, 5 miles down the road I was one of the first on the scene of a bad accident. Car veered off the highway, hit a tree and rolled, it was on its roof still. Driver inexperience (16 yr old was driving on her permit, father in passenger seat, she overcorrected and the rest is history. Teenage passenger ejected (she was in ICU) and Grandmother also in ICU. Thankfully nobody died, but it was bad. There were so many people who stopped, but very few knew what to do. Thankfully there were already people with the girl who got ejected (I don't ever want to see someone in that much pain again, she was animalistic it was so bad). I ended up helping a sweet 10 year old boy named Travis. He turned out to be fine (broken arm and split lip) and was about the best *patient* you could ask for. Thank goodness for all those years of training I'd had, its amazing how that training comes back to you and keeps you calm. I was able to keep him calm and get lots of helpful info from him (he was the only person of the 5 in the car in any condition to tell rescuers what had happened...two sisters were in bad shape, father was drunk and hysterical, gramma was critical). When I saw the EMTs would be with Travis soon (he was the last to go as he was doing well), I told him all about the backboard and how he'd be wrapped up tight like a burrito and wouldn't be able to move much...but that was OK because it was supposed to be that way. He was such a trooper. I'll never forget those big brown eyes, he was so good looking right up at me while I held his head still (didn't know if he had neck injuries, he didn't remember the actual accident or how he got out on the grass).
When I left Taco Bell that night I was pissed. 5 minutes later, I knew there was something else working that night.
Now for the PSA portion: PLEASE wear seat belts. The girl who was ejected was not wearing one and you don't even want to imagine the amount of pain she was in. She's lucky she lived. Also please get your first aid/CPR training. There were so many people that night who wanted to help, but didn't know how.
