Another Brit & Whit update!

I just got another text from her.  She has only progressed to 1 1/2 cm and if she doesn't make more progression within the hour, they are probably going to do a c-section.  =(

Fortunately, she's not in any pain and said that while the epi was sucky it was very bearable.

I know a c/s is not what she wanted so she's probably really scared right now.  Please say an extra prayer for mom, dad and baby!

    LOL at dilation dust.

Fingers crossed and praying for progress!

  • Is this what's cosidered failure to progresss? How long do they give from induction/start of labor before they do a c/s?

  • I know, I was at Payless when I read the text and was like, "NO, it hasn't been enough time to give up and make her have a section." But I guess that amount of time for 1 cm is. I just wish labor dust to her!

I would guess it's on a patient to patient basis.  Brittany told me a couple days ago that they would give her 24 hours from whenever her water broke before they did a section.  I'm guessing that her high blood pressure has something to do with taking Whitley a little earlier.  She was dilated 1 cm on Wed so she's only progressed 1/2 cm more after approximately 6-7 hours on pitocin.

    yep

it varies, for me I was admitted on a Thursday night and they started giving me stuff to help me dilate.  They did that again on Friday with no progress, so Saturday morning they woke me up bright and early and broke my water around 8 am, when I still failed to dilate by 3 PM, they did a c/s and Elise was born an hour later.

Timeline really depends on when the water breaks because there's a certain window of time from that point that the baby has to be out.

yeah her high bp probably has a lot to do with it.  That makes waiting too long risky for both mother and baby.

That was my exact thought.  She has one of the best dr's in BR.  If it's important to get Whitley out sooner rather than later, he won't hesitate to do it.

Yep, that's failure to progress. Like Shoe and Christen said it's a patient to patient basis though. I know someone that stayed in labor for 48 hours before a csection was done. I was in labor for 16 hours before my doc decided a csection was best. I went in at about 3 cm dilated. After 16 hours I had only gotten to 4 1/2.

  • Lots and lots of prayers headed to Brittany, Dusty and little Whitley!
