running shoes?

I just signed up to run a half marathon with my sister - I must be CRAZY since I don't run...at all. I get cramps in my arches so I do the elliptical. So, now I need to get good running shoes and hit the road. Any recommendations of somewhere to go that can fit me well? I'm willing to drop some cash to get a good pair.

Re: running shoes?

  • Flying Feet in York. I'd ask for the owner, Greg, if possible.

There's also Bauer's Shoes in Annville.  The owner is a track coach, Joel Hoffsmith.

Good Luck in your race! When is it?

  • There is Rapid Transit in downtown State College, they are apparently really good at fitting you with the right shoe. My co-worker calls the one guy who works there "the shoe whisperer" because he can always find the right shoe.
  • There is a place over by Wal-Mart (on the east Shore) Not the plaza with the Wal-Mart, the one across the street with Weis Market...I am pretty sure it is called the Athletes Foot.  A friend of mine works there and they fit you for sneakers for your needs.
  • awesome!

    where/when is the race at??

  • you may want to consider seeing a physical therapist or foot doc to be fitted for custom orthotics.  also, totally agree about flying feet.  i went to school with greg's daughter.  hes the best!
