XP: Anyone have a Joby Gorillapod

Ok, I guess this really isn't technology, but it's related!

I'm thinking of buying one of these for the Canon point and shoot I just bought.  I don't know how much I'd use it, but I figured it would be good for low light and taking pictures of FI & I so we don't have to always do the "stick your arm out in front of you as far as it will go" couple pics that inevitably cut off half of one of our heads!

Do you like it?  I saw some good deals on ebay.

Re: XP: Anyone have a Joby Gorillapod

  • Yes, I really like mine.  I bought it before our trip to Tahiti and I wrapped that thing around trees and the roll cage on the jeep from our jeep tour.  I've also stuck it on a fence, and just set it on the top of picnic tables and the hood of a car to take large group shots of my whole family.

The Gorillapod makes the stick out the camera self portraits easier too.   :)  I'd sometimes hold out the camera by setting the self timer and hanging on to the tripod portion (when there wasn't something to wrap it onto).

  • I have one.  It is quite useful, although one of my legs keeps popping out.  I think mine is defective.
  • I have the original small one for my point-and-shoot and a larger one for my DSLR, and I love them both.

The only problem I've ever had is with the little one...since it is so lightweight, it blew over when the wind caught it.  Luckily I hadn't walked away yet so I prevented yet another beach-camera accident.  Tongue Tied

  • Have one...LOVE IT!  Could not live with out it!  We orginally bought it for vacations mostly but we now take it everywhere.

  • Yup, have one and absolutely love it!! Very handy all around.
  • Excellent.  I'm definitely buying one!  I think I'll buy the SLR one that can hold camcorders and double duty it for the camcorder and my point & shoot!
