Connecting a MacBook to a TV?

I'm sure there's a way but the forum stuff I'm finding from Googling is a bit confusing.Anyone use a plain ole MacBook to view movies on their TV?We've got some instant watches set up on Netflix but don't want to stare at a tiny screen.... TIA!
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Re: Connecting a MacBook to a TV?

  • What type of TV do you have. Does it have HDMI, S-Video, Composite or Component?

Depending what you have, helps me answer your question.

  • Hmmm....  technology illiterate here.

    I know it's not HDMI.

    It's older - not HD

It's got an s-video port on the back.

It's got the 3 RCA jacks in the front.  The 2 audio (red and whilte) and 1 video (yellow).

     Sorry... I'm really clueless...

  • Give me until tonight and I'll figure it out for you.
  • How old is your MacBook?  It would also help to know what connectors are on the side of your computer.

Okay.  Assuming you own the same type of MacBook that we have, you need this to get the video to your TV:

For sound, you need something similar to this:

  • I was wondering the same thing.. we have a pretty new Sharp 36" LCD. I think it has something on the back of the TV that says PC and it looks like a USB. Would like a double ended USB cord work for Mac? Do they make such a thing?

  • To hook up to your LCD you would want a dvi to hdmi cord. However only some hdmi will carry over the audio so you would need to use audio out to audio in cable. your macbook has an audio out spot, better known as your headphone jack.
