Quick Poll: Dog sitting

What would you pay someone to watch your dog for a month, if you are providing the food?

Re: Quick Poll: Dog sitting

  • Absolutely. It is one thing if it was for the day, but even for the day I'd ask if they would like to be compensated. It is a lot of work looking after someone else's dogs, whether or not you have your own dog.

  • How much would you pay them?  We may not bring Roxy with us right away to San Francisco because we are coming home for about 2 weeks over Christmas, so we'd have to board her out there if we decided to bring her.  Just not sure what is fair.  Shes a pretty low maintenance dog.
  • For me it would depend on if it is family, friends or someone who does dog sitting.

Family - I would give them around $5 per day.

    Friends - Probably around $10

Dog sitter - If their normal fee was $20 per day, I would negotiate to $15.

  • I agree that it depends on who was doing the dog sitting. When Sadie was a puppy, we paid $16 a day for two half-hour visits, and I'm not even sure what full-time care would be. This of course was for a professional dog-sitter versus a friend or family member.

If you're looking at a family or friend member, I would probably offer around $250 for the month. I've never really thought this through though before, so I could be way off! I would want to make sure that the person was compensated for all of the work of walking, playing, etc.

I think $250 for the month sounds reasonable for either family or friend.
