How much?

Given this information.

Breakfast with your husband.

Meal was good.  Service was good (not amazing but drinks were kept full and food came out quickly).  Total cost of meal $17.77.

How much would you tip?

Re: How much?

  • If service was good I alway tip 20-25%
  • Probably $5, especially if we were paying with cash.

  • I'd probably leave a $20.  If I wasn't paying cash, I'd probably add on $3 and then round up, so $21.
  • MH tipped $8.23!  he paid with a credit card.

Was it an accident?  Does he always do that?

I tip this only if the service was better than good, I had a really special request, large group, etc.  Then it's 20%+

Apparently he meant to do it.  When we got to the car and he handed me the receipt I said "You do realize you gave her almost a 50% tip, right?" and he said "she probably needs that $8 more than we do."  Which is nice but I almost fell over when I saw it.  He doesn't normally tip like that.  In fact, he used to get mad at me for tipping 25% sometimes!

  • I probably would have tipped $5 if it was cash like Mel said. Otherwise I usually tip 15-20% is the service was alright and up to 30% if the service was excellent. Sure was nice of YH to tip almost 50%!!!

  • Maybe he was just in an extra good mood after spending some quality time with his wife and enjoying a good meal.  MH tends to do this.

His response was kind of sweet.  Maybe the holiday spirit has particularly warmed his heart this year... and made him feel especially generous!

Did the server seem kind of in need of the money?  Just randomly out of the blue, I'd be a little perplexed, but would shrug it off, I guess. LOL

  • Paula: I don't think she seemed like she needed the money.  Not anymore than anyone else who has ever waited on us there.  It was sweet of him to give her so much and I really didn't "care" but it kind of shocked me I guess.  I did tell him that next time we go out to dinner at the restaurant where we had our rehearsal dinner he is NOT allowed to tip 50% (it usually costs us around $150 every time we eat there).
