Recommend your RE

I normally only lurk over on the baby board since I feel out of place there, not having any children. DH and I have been trying/not preventing since April 2008 and we aren't getting anywhere. I have PCOS and we want to be PG within the next year so I think it's time for me to look in to seeing a RE. My OBGYN recommended a guy at Christ Hospital a few years ago when I was diagnosed with PCOS but I did not like him at all! He was not friendly and I wasn't happy with him. So, can anyone recommend their RE?

 Thanks girls!

Re: Recommend your RE

  • I don't have any recos, but wanted to tell, you would probably get more response on the baby board.  And don't feel out of place, we accept everyone over there, we love new faces!!  :)   I know quite a few ladies over there have great RE recs.

  • Ugh, nest ate my reply!  Anway, was the guy at Christ the big researcher, last name starts with a G?  If so I have heard that he has no personality at all.  I saw Dr. Chin for a while but it was too much for me to drive down every few months from Dayton.  He & his staff are very nice, I think they just didn't know what to do with me b/c we weren't TTC-I just wanted help with my PCOS & my health.  He really encourages a healthy lifestyle & alternative medicine & he's pretty frank (not mean!) about health issues like smoking & loosing weight.  My new doctor in Dayton is more agressive with meds but we'll need to change things around when we do TTC b/c some of the things I'm on are contraindicated for pg or TTC.  I've heard that Dr. Thie is very good too (she does GYN care too, no OB though) but it's hard to get an appointment with her.  Drs A & S seem to be the "popular" practice around here.  I think part of it is that they just have a high volume of patients, plus they take some of the difficult cases.  Does it mean that they're the best?  I don't know, maybe the best for some cases but not for everyone.  And I agree, ask on the baby board, they're nice!

  • For an RE, I recommend Dr. Chin.

However, I see Dr. Mattingly for my PCOS treatments. He isn't an RE, but he does treat PCOS ladies using the NaPro Technology method.

I only remember his name was Michael something, he does some research and he's very full of himself! There are magazines with him in it hanging all over the waiting room. I think I was a little turned off by that before I even went to see him! Plus, they did my bloodwork etc and NEVER called with the results, I had to stalk them down. To top if off they told me I had to come in for an ultrasound so I am thinking ultrasound, never even knew there was such a thing as a vaginal ultrasound and then when I get there and they hand me a robe I was a little shocked! A girl needs time to prepare for something like that, at least I do! Then he asked if he could have a student come in with him, I said sure because I thought it was 1 person... holy *** it was like an entire classroom came in there (I think it was 5 or 6 people) and I was MAD!  I will never go back there, even if it means I will never have children of my own!

  • Sorry he was a turd.  I don't care how good a doctor is if his/her bedside manner is awful!  Dr. Chin whipped out the dildo cam at every visit to see if I was growing good eggs vs bad cysts but at least I knew it was coming.  My current doctor relies more on bloodwork so no u/s so far.  I suppose they're easier to handle if you're trying for a baby!

Edit: I didn't realize that daves_sweet had talked about Dr. Thie. I will say if you can get in with her from what I gather she is good. She is my gyn (doesn't deliver), but she will refer you to obs once you are pg.

  • I have PCOS and I see Dr. Scheiber.  He is in with Dr. Awadalla & I have seen both.  I first saw an RE in Dayton and I have to say the attention & the care I get with Dr. Scheiber is leaps & bounds above what I was receiving previously.  He's great. I can't say enough nice things about him.  The entire staff there makes me feel like they truly care every time I am in that office. They are very prompt at responding to my numerous questions and phone calls. I can tell I am not just a number to them.  I have met with the dildo cam on several occassions but I always know ahead of time. I also know some people who have gone to Dr. Chin & who have been very happy. The one thing with him is he does not do IVF.  Because of my response to meds combined with my PCOS we are doing IVF. GL!

  • i've seen the guy whose name starts with a G and he was horrible. Now I see Dr. Thie. It can be hard to get in to see her, but she is really fantastic!
  • I go to Dr. Chin.  He's great and his staff is AMAZING.
