Thanksgiving

Can you believe it will be here in just a few weeks?  Does anyone have any exciting plans?  I think we are just going to spend the day with H's family this year instead of splitting it.  One of my SIL's and I always come up with a theme drink--last year it was frozen cranberry margaritas.  This year I am thinking of some combination of champagne and pomegranate.

Re: Thanksgiving

  • We alternate familes each year, so this year we're going to DH's aunt's house in Tewksbury... which reminds me, I need to ask her what we can bring...
  • I don't know that our plans are exciting, but I'm certainly excited!  We're going back to the Midwest to spend Thanksgiving with our families, we haven't done this since the 2007 holiday season!  Last year we spent Thanksgiving and Christmas just the two of us here in Boston.  We'll be going to three different dinners (two on Thursday and one on Saturday), but they all do different sides and preparations for the turkey (one's roasted, honey baked, and fried).

Until you posted this I hadn't thought about how soon it is with how busy things have been, but I can't wait!

  • DH's family always does a smaller (immediate family) one in our hometown.  My family does a big one with extended family and alternates the host each year, which can be in western MA, southeast MA, or RI.  Even though we have been together for more than 11 yrs (high school sweethearts), we have avoided trying to choose by splitting up and going to our own families' celebrations when they are two far apart, and sticking together and spending half the day at each when they are in the same town.

This is our first Thanksgiving as hubby & wife, and fortunately we can still postpone trying to choose because they are both in the same town this year.  Fortunately our parents' houses are only a few streets away from each other.

  • Champagne and pomegranate. Yum!

We are going to a friend's house in Chas. It should be nice.

  • I. cannot. wait. I loooove Thanksgiving! It's my favorite meal of the year Big Smile

We'll be eating dinner with the ILs, and dessert with my side. We have been switching back and forth every year who we eat dinner with, but I think this will be our last year doing that.

  • I'm kind of glad my parents and ILs don't live near each other because I would really hate having to go back and forth (although I would like if my family lived a little closer). We're going to my IL's for Thanksgiving- flights are too expensive to see my family in FL and we don't have a lot of time. And MIL and I have a tradition of going out shopping dreadfully early on Black Friday with all the crazies Smile We haven't seen them since early July so we're excited to go visit. The pomegranate and champagne sounds awesome!
  • I cannot believe it is November already! Holy moly. This year we're going to CT to be with DH's family. We're planning on bringing stuffing and a dessert and MIL is making a turkey and probably potatoes and some veggies.

As I'm getting older I'm appreciating Thanksgiving meals more and more. I'm a picky eater, and was even more so when I was younger. But now that I like veggies more, and discovered the other year and I really like stuffing, I've found a new appreciation.

  • I'm so excited because this year we're doing dinner with my family and it seems like foreeeeever since we've done that!  Usually we go visit DH's mom this time of year but he decided to delay that trip until January or so since she doesn't care if we actually come on Thanksgiving anyway.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We always have way too many people but it's usually a good time- we'll be at my parents house. I'm not sure what I'm bringing but I'm going to make DH mashed potatoes since it's not something we typically have at our Thanksgiving and he was upset last year.... I also make spinach & artichoke stuffing (more like a side, not in the turkey) and cranberry sauce... not sure what else I'll tackle.
  • I cannot believe it's almost here! It's also almost been a year since Dh and moved here, it definitely doesn't feel like it..

My SIL is coming over to spend Thanksgiving with us (she lives in Somerville) so I'm trying to figure out what to make, a theme drink is a great idea, christar, I might have to try that!

  • Big relief- we finally figured out our holidays! I think we're going to alternate TG, and split Christmas (Christmas day with my family, then go to his family on the 27th). This year we're going to PA for TG with his family- Wednesday to Saturday, and Saturday afternoon we'll drive to CT to spend all day Sunday with my family, and drive back early Monday morning. Last year his whole family had the stomach flu, so he stayed with my family.

I'm a little nervous about joining a family tradition for the first time, so we'll see how it goes... There will be 6 adults and 2 kids total, so it's really small.?I emailed his mom yesterday about what I should bring, because I have no idea, and don't want to show up empty-handed (normally I'd bring wine, but they're very against alcohol, so that would be offensive). DH has never brought anything, so he had no suggestions. I'm hoping she'll let me bring pies, because I love baking pies, and according to DH, MIL doesn't love it so much.

  • I think we are going to my grandfathers since he is older and its to much for him to drive to my house or my parents.  So me and my dad will probably cook and bring all the food there.   I just want lots of good food!!

  • No plans yet, but the usual routine is lunch at my mom's, dinner at my uncle's on my dad's side, some time over the weekend see FIL.
  • Same ole same ole.  "Small" family dinner with my dad's side(he's 1 of 8), aunts/uncles and cousins in Medway.  It's 68 this year I think.  We  fry up a couple turkeys, I bring an appetizer and a dessert, everyone has their thing.  We eat in the garage on folding tables; it's a crazy day, but my favorite holiday cause we all get together.  Everyone pray for a sunny day for us because it's tough when it rains or is super cold!
