I saw Mandy's NYC Marathon post below yesterday when we were going to the airport, but I couldn't respond w/o losing signal on my phone. For some reason, my phone really did not like NYC.
It was a crazy, long, AMAZING weekend. That race alone was amazing. I just got an email from the race director and she said there were 43,475 finishers. Who knows how many even started. You guys saw that my time was 6:19 and some change, which includes a 3 min pee break. I'm a little disappointed b/c I wanted to break 6 hrs but at the same time, I really proud of myself b/c my splits were very consistent (my running friends who saw them thought I'd run with a pacer) and I ran more of this one than I did in Denver last year. In other words, I was smarter about it and didn't go out too fast.
Unfortunately, I also ran with the beginnings of the flu (or strep, I have an appt this afternoon to find out). I'd noticed my cough had gotten worse (I've had an allergy-related cough for a month now) and my throat was hurting on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, but I decided to ignore it. Everything hit me like a ton of bricks on the plane yesterday. I feel like a douche for being on the plane like that.
Anyway, I'll try and get a race report going in my blog, but I think I'll skim through the other posts first, take another nap - I called off work today - and go to my dr appt.
Re: You guys are the best
Aww - I'm so sorry you're sick!! I was thinking when you'd be back on, but figured coming back, you'd be swamped at work.
Let us know how the Dr's go - sending you get well thoughts!
Woman, you are amazing.
You did AWESOME!
Unrelated - did you get your "I did the race" gift from Tiffany's?
Thanks, and I will. Last night I was convinced I had H1N1. Today the fever, chills and headache is gone. I think the body aches are gone too, but I'm sore to begin with, so who knows.
I went to the expo on Sat to look at the necklace I wanted and they were sold out.
I was so bummed, but I'd mentioned to Mike that maybe the 5th Ave store would have it since we'd be down there on Monday. When we met up after the race, he presented me with my first little blue box...and it'll prob be the only one I ever receive.
Sorry, the Mac doesn't like clicky links.

The tinyurl doesn't work for me, but I got goosebumps reading that. Way to go Mike!! Awwwww!!
*Virtual Chicken Soup thoughts*
ETA: I bought the foam roller like you said and have used it a few times. After last night, I feel REALLY good - thank you for taking the time to explain it to me, Val!
I'm so proud of you Val!
Do you want me to forward the email I got showing me your times so you'll have it (if you don't have it already, that is).
I'm so proud of you Val! You did awesome and you're totally my hero!
And way to go Mike for being such a great husband! The link doesn't work but I'm sure what he bought is perfect for you!
On of my running friends emailed it to me. I need to get my watch plugged in so I can pull elevation charts and mile splits. For a while they were announcing that they were opening the streets to traffic, so I ran about 2 miles straight at a ~12:30 pace (fast for me in a marathon) and I think that's where I screwed the rest of the race.
