Well if we're telling long stories today...

So before I moved to where I am now, I worked at a public relations/advertising agency.  One of our clients was a film festival, and I did a lot of work with that client.  When I moved here, my IL's family friend was starting a film festival in this city, and my FIL told him that I had experience working with a similar film festival and could help them get the word out.

So the guy calls me, and compared to the one I worked on back home, he's totally disorganized.  He basically just tells me he will get back in touch with me and he's SO excited that my experience will be put to good use on this project.

He doesn't contact me again until last week.  The film festival is two weeks from today, and he wants to start, as he calls it, a PR campaign.  At the agency back home, we started working over a year in advance, securing free local media and community interest, plus monthly magazines need at least a month's notice.  Anyway, when the guy contacts me last week, he says, why don't you tell us what you did so we can start working on it.

So I'm kind of hesitant because I'm like, well it might be a little too late for this... but I was a liaison between the film festival and the media, making sure they had all the information I needed. I wrote radio ads and helped with their production. I designed and put together press kits and scheduled interviews.

He writes me back and says, Oh. The theater where we're having the festival is doing that. We thought you could be in charge of putting up fliers at local coffee shops.

I was slightly offended... that's what he thinks PR people do!? And he was excited to have someone "experienced" tack up flyers at a coffeeshop?? Anyone can do that!

HMPH. Now I've inadvertently volunteered myself to drive around and stick up fliers.
