Poll: Do you celebrate the holidays with your friends?

Last year my girl friends and I went out for brunch one day, but now 2 of them have babies. I am thinking I should have a little party (maybe potluck at my house). Do you get together during the holidays with your friends?

Re: Poll: Do you celebrate the holidays with your friends?

  • Me and FI have a pretty close-knit group of friends. We usually get together sometime after Christmas, before the New Years. Potluck and have a kris kringle. We plan on continuing this tradition when our baby arrives.

  • Not really.  We both have pretty longstanding family traditions, so it takes up most of the holidays to fit in both of our family gatherings.  We tend to get together with friends on New Years Eve.  Wish we could, but even our friends are busy with family plans too.

  • we used to have a get together in early dec/late nov but the last couple years have been harder (i.e. we were away last year). the thought is to move it to January. not sure what we'll do this year. I hope it happens and I wish it would happen before christmas but many of them have kids and we all have busy schedules so I have to wait and see

also - my birthday is in december so if I do end up having a party I get to see everyone then.

  • Yep we have a couple different circles of friends who have parties. Typically we have 3 or 4 I guess. Our all girls holiday party sometimes involves our SO and sometimes it doesn't. I have no idea if kids will be invited to that one.
  • Our closest couple friends and us would always get together for a nice dinner. Last year was the first Christmas with their daughter. I don't know whether we'll be getting together with them this year or not.

With our other friends we just try to have an informal gathering.

  • Yes! We have a close group of friends and someone always throws a Christmas Party (we rotate - I did it last year). Now that everyone is having kids we decided on no gifts for adults - kids only! We used to do kris-kringle too but who knows, it might come back again...

  • Yes. With my closest gfs we do a gift exchange. This year we are doing a secret santa including the SOs.

A couple years ago we did a big party at our apartment where all the guests brought a toy for the toy drive. It was really fun. i don't have the energy for it this year but I think we're going to try again next year.

  • DH and I usually do something with one or two of our groups of friends during the holidays. And we usually initiate it so we can have it at our home. I enjoy hosting, but it's also a million times easier with our son.?
  • The girls and I usually do something, last year I hosted a brunch and we did a gift exchange.

I'm still the only one with a house so it might fall to me to host again this yaer... although with my due date being so close to Christmas I might try to do it in early Dec, or suggest a restaurant instead for this year! I feel like getting my house ready for a party will not be on the list of things I want to do at 38 weeks pregnant, lol.

  • I live with one of my BFFs. I love her. She is my sister. She will always be a part of my life and we always try to celebrate the holidays together.

As for my other couple of BFFs and close friends, we always get together for dinner or something because we have been friends for a long time. 8-9 years and that's pretty huge. We made it through high school and college together! They are extended family basically.

I dont see this changing but getting better once the twins come. I know they will be involved in their lives!
