s/o Thanksgiving Parade balloons

has anybody gone to see them inflated? is it a total madhouse?  I've done the parade thing once and I'll never do it again, but I'm curious about seeing them inflated.

Re: s/o Thanksgiving Parade balloons

  • No, but I've always wanted to.  I think it's not so crazy - they always show it on the news and it looks relatively calm.  This year we are going to DH's fam in Cali for thanksgiving, so it's not an option, but maybe next year.  I just think it would be fun to get all bundled up and have a cup of hot chocolate while watching the balloons...

I went to the parade one year too and will NEVER go again, unless I have seats in the bleachers right in front of Macy's.

  • I've never done it before, but it does look like it would be cool to see. =)

  • I went like 10 years ago and it was really low key. It was fun.  If the weather is good, it could be a great night.
  • I have gone several times and it is a lot of fun.  It is best to go early in the day as it does get pretty crowded in the evening.
  • If you go after work, it's crazy. We went one year and it was just terrible. You shuffled around in one giant pack and you didn't really see much. Be prepared to have your ankles constantly hit by strollers.

I think it could be fun during the day, much lower key and that is when I think they actually inflate the majority of them.

I've been to the parade too, and out of the two, I could handle going back to the parade, but not the night before.   Smile

  • I think the secret to the parade (I'm a die hard) is a combination of weather (the worse the better, really) and position (east side of the route and above 65). And I think the weather applies to the =balloons too. We went years and years ago and it was freezing--but also pretty empty. So if you have a good tolerance and are prepared for the cold/rain/snow (I've done all of them) it can be fun, in a slightly different way.
