I have this look on my face right now:

Hmm

I'm working on my final school assignment for this semester, and I'm reviewing my professor's notes on my last assignment to make sure I don't repeat any mistakes. The major thing that's putting that expression on my face is that she has methodically crossed out ALL of the semicolons that I (correctly) used in my paper and replaced them with periods. Needless to say, this creates a bunch of fractured sentences, but she clearly thinks that choppy phrasing is superior to a semicolon.

I am suddenly very skeptical of my professor's grammar skills.

  • Heh, makes me wonder if semicolons are banned in Australia =P

  • Wonder how she'd respond to a lesson in grammar from you... Not something I'd recommend trying before you finish out the semester and have a set grade though, lol. =P

LOL yeah we have to do a professor evaluation at the end of the semester so I'm thinking of mentioning it in there...I might wait until I get my grade back before I submit it. Stick out tongue

  • You should use citations for every semicolon in the new paper, and include a grammatical text in the bibliography.

LOL I was thinking the same thing!

That's odd though - is this an English professor?  I had to give one of my (younger) math professors an English lesson one day - and it's his first language - not like he was some foreign professor.  He kept misusing there, their, and they're.  It was so annoying, but he appreciated it!

  • how annoying. I'm pretty good when it comes to grammar and I would be annoyed if I was doing things correctly and a professor tried to (incorrectly) correct me
