This is ridiculous. If it wasn't so frustrating, I'm sure I'd find it comical.
Earlier this year (January, we'll say), I was seeing a regular stylist at Cost Cutters. (Kill me, I know they suck. LOL I had super short hair and this chick at least did decent with that.) She "started her own business" in a not-so-desirable part of town.
So I started seeing my original stylist from a few years ago, J. I went back to her after bouncing around a bit (her new salon sucked and they'd REALLY botched a color for me.) I fell in love with her again and she did a great job. Three months later, the salon - no joke - just shut their doors. No change on their voicemail or website - no notification. NOTHING. GREAT.
My neighbor was kind enough to recommend another place. Loved the aesthetician who did my waxing. Went back to try a stylist there; my aesthetician says "By the way,.. I'm leaving. Here's the card for the new place I'm going." Great - now I get to follow her. The stylist she recommended? Didn't like her. So my neighbor suggested someone else. I went to him, kind of apprehensive because truthfully, the last GUY that cut my hair did a shittastic job.
Again, FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM. I swear, I nearly had an orgasm when he washed my hair and he did a SUPERB job. I felt like I'd found my Nick Arojo (WNTW fans, you know what I'm talking about.) I'd had ONE cut with him and even gone with highlights.
So I just called to set up a haircut appointment. He's been promoted to a location 45 freaking minutes away. I'm in dire need of a haircut, and our holiday pictures are coming up.
Lovely. Fvcking lovely.
Re: I'm going to effing cry.
It's official...you have the worst luck with salons and finding a stylist that stays in one place!
Sorry sweetie! Hopefully you can find someone new before holiday pictures.
You do have the worst luck.
I would do what Melanie said for this one time. He may even be able to suggest someone a bit closer.
Oh man Paula, that sucks. It is so hard to find a good stylist & colorist and when you do this happens to you, AGAIN!
Have you thought about asking any of your neighbors who they go to? Assuming you like their hair...

I'm not sure if this stylist LOVES IT OR HATES IT at the new location - I called to book an appointment yesterday for a cut and highlights. (I was just going to do the cut, but if I'm driving 1.5+ hours to see him, I'll be damned if I'm doing it twice this year! LOL)
He USED to book 3-4 weeks out for a color IF YOU WERE FLEXIBLE with your availability. I could've gone today, next Tuesday, next Wednesday, next Thursday, I'm going next Saturday... he was WIDE OPEN. Apparently... I'm the only one crazy enough to make the drive. LOL
