I haven't posted much on here about this, because we're still in the planning stages, but DH & I are starting a business. Target is (was) to be up & running at the beginning of January. We figured that would make it easier for taxes, etc.
Long story short, he will be doing the actual work (servicing emergency vehicles), and I will do the office work (billing, marketing, etc).
Prior to becoming a FT firefighter, that's what DH did, he was an Emergency Vehicle Technician, servicing firetrucks, ambulances, etc.
Well, we've been talking about this for a while, and all non-compete agreements have expired, so we decided to give it a shot. Again, targeting January for the business to actually well, be in business.
DH got a phone call today from a fire dept he used to work with under his old job. They have some work that needs to be done, and want him to do it. Like now. He talked to them, explained about the business & such. Basically they're gonna pay him as an individual for now, then will be his first official client once the business starts!
And... they hope he doesn't mind, but they've already given his name to another fire dept that's looking for someone to work on their trucks.
And... his paramedic instructor, who works with 15 fire depts in the area, has said once we get up & running, he will take some brochures & business cards to his other depts, and give them his personal recommendation.
DH is a really good EVT. It was obvious when we were dating & I saw how the fire depts he worked with relied on him & treated him with such respect. And there's not much competition in this line of work, so we already knew the market was out there.
But we didn't expect it to start taking off before we really got it started!
It's so exciting! and a little overwhelming!
But mostly.... I'm really,
really proud of DH. He's been talking about this off & on for the past 3 years or so, and it's finally starting to happen. I am so happy to be supporting him thru this, and to be his partner in this endeavour.
{sigh}
Re: Getting excited: DH & I starting business (LONG)
Yay for DH and a bigger yay for you! It is very stressful to start a business and it takes alot of trust and support from you to help him through this, which is why I gave you the bigger yay
Congratulations to both of you though, it sounds very exciting and I wish you the best.
Congrats, that sounds awesome! If you can email me some info, I will pass it around to my fire dept's for you as well.
Will you still be working your full time that you have now on top of this?
