It's gonna be bad this year, isn't it (re: food pantries)
Our church serves a hot meal at a mission in Covington once a month. That outreach contacted the church a couple of months ago, desparate for food for their food pantry. The amount of people they serve has more than doubled (both for the hot meals & the food pantry), and their shelves were literally bare.
So the church has begun taking regular food donations from its members to help them replenish.
Then today we just got an email at work. One of the community groups that they have supported in the past contacted them desparate for help stocking the shelves of their food pantry. They have "...seen a dramatic increase in the number of individuals and families that need support..."
And it's only November. I just have a feeling it's gonna be really bad this winter.
If you don't already, please consider making a donation of non-perishable food items and/or toiletries to your local food pantry.

What is the place your church serves at in Covington? I'm just wondering because I live above a place that serves meals in Covington several times a month. We had one just last night actually.

specifically what items do food pantries need? i'm sure i have things that we aren't eating (that are still good--like for example, DH buys canned corn and I hate canned corn so I'm happy to give all of that away!).
Oh okay, that's probably something based at Grace Baptist. The ministry I live above is E 10th and Madison.

What I've specifically seen on the lists: boxed cereal, boxed meals, boxed pasta, canned meats/sauces, canned fruits/veggies.
And basic toiletries: toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc.
